Do we pick up Henry Melton's contract?

Do we pick up his contract? The guy has been on a mission lately and is playing at an all pro level. In all honesty, I thought he was just going to be a one year type of guy. Sure looks like one of our best defenders at the moment.

His style of play is only going to allow our DE's more opportunities at sacks. He has been doing a tremendous job of flushing the quarterback out of the pocket, or at least putting pressure on them.

He's playing really well lately, but I'm still hesitant to guarantee $9 million for next season.

Pay Melton $9m next year.
Extend or franchise Dez.
Somehow find a way to keep Murray.
Continue servicing Romo and Tyron Smith's $100m contracts.
Figure out a way to keep Roland McClain.

Oy Vey! The Front-office has their work cut out for them this offseason.

No kidding!

And don't forget some type of deal for Leary, and a decision on Carter and Durant.

That's going to be quite the juggling act.

I agree but then I think Dallas will look to renegotiate the contract. the total worth is an avg of 8 mill a year. Next season as you said is 9 mill with the next 2 season at 7.5. I think Dallas will be able to renegotiate the contract with a decent signing bonus

I sure hope so.

I'd like to see them be able to work out a mutually-beneficial agreement.

I hope so as well, I think any deal he gets will extend the current deal by 2 years, a good signing bonus. The one he got this past season was for 1 mill. So I think Dallas will be able to work a fair deal for Melton when all is said and done.

If Melton puts together another 5-6 games like those last 2, then he is a serious bargain at 9 mill

And people really need to stop thinking we can't pay Dez, Murray, or Ro if we do this.

I don't think we renegotiate, unless you mean to simply move the money around. He came here on a show me deal. He's sorta showing us.

According to what I have heard his deal can be renegotiated, Melton would have 3 years on this deal with the entire deal avg out at 8 mill a season . Dallas if they choose could extend the deal out to 2 more years add a signing bonus to it and get the direct hit lowered.

I've said it in a few other threads. I want him and Crawford on the field at the same time. Melton was getting about 25 snaps per game (and Crawford was getting about 40). I want them both getting 40. Maybe that means moving Crawford back to SDE. Neither is a true 1-tech so you can't play them both in the base.

he looks explosive again. I put him in same category as Carter, McClain, Harris. I want to see how they finish out. Make some plays in divisional games late in year that helps Dallas get in playoff and then continue to make plays in playoffs. Then lets talk about throwing millions of dollars their way.

Sure -- I thought you meant try to get him to take less.

Nothing precludes us from turning salary into bonus. As I've noted many times, with a cap that increases every year, teams are silly not to use that mechanism.

Don't know about All-Pro, but he's playing pretty well.

Yeah did not mean overall take less but Dallas can lessen the hit on the cap next year
