Do we really need to draft a Safety Early?

I keep seeing posts sayin we need to draft a safety but I say what about Pat Watkins. He'll be entering his 3rd year and he has shown flashes. Enough to pass on a safety this draft and let him play next season. Then evaluate where we stand and don't forget about Courtney Brown. Besides we need a CB a lot more than a Safety.

I heard this is a weak draft for Safties, so I don't think the Boys would draft one very high at all.

And as you said, we have larger needs as in CB, WR, RB, and OL.

Yep, those are the four.

Roy Williams isn't going anywhere... at least not for the '08 season.

What exactly are you basing this "Watkin's is a bust" thing on?

larry brown was on the ticket yesterday and he normally defends roy williams.

However yesterday he said some pretty bold things. He said hamlin was the better player and without just flat out saying it, brown said roy needs to be looked closely at because he is not the same player and Hamlin is the reason we stopped giving up the big plays this year.

I found that interesting considering brown was one of the guys like myself that always defended roy williams.

It depends on if when out turn comes up, there is a Safety there that we like. I think the Cowboys are quite happy with ours, and won't be targeting Safety, but you never know.

I wouldn't say they're happy, if Roy wasn't making what he was making, I'm pretty sure they would be looking hard at that position.

i think a guy like reggie smith would be a very smart pick. because he can play every posistion in the secondary. and has for oklahoma. he just gives you so many options

Probably depends on if they sign Hamlin again too.

Eventually, Hamlin will be starting at SS, and Roy will play Bill Bates old position, Nickel/Dime LB.

Unless Roy somehow reverses this metamorphasis he's undergone, he's not a starting caliber safety in this league.

Quintin Demps-SS UTEP will probably be there in the 2nd-3rd, but I doubt he drops further. He's a ballhawk, loves to hit big and always seems to be around for the big play (ask Kevin Kolb)

I think, Roy doesn't work hard enough to improve, which was noted by even Micky Spagnola, who really never goes out on the limb to critisize current cowboys players.

And, I never said this before, but it always bothered me, when they drafted Roy Williams, that he said, when he isn't playing, he doesn't watch film or study game etc. His hobby in off season is just to watch movies.

Now, during 1st 2-3 his play was not bad to be a concern. But you can see more and more, when you're first priority is not Football or at least maybe 2nd priority, I don't see how you can improve as player?

He also completely lost his confidence in coverage and that shows up. 3Rd, he has this confrontational style with Media, which doesn't help him and is very sensitive to critisizm.

I think Roy has worn out his welcome and probably needs a change of teams to get better. Probably by next year, he will be gone, i.e. in 2009. Unless he really works at his craft this year and shows improvement in 2008.
