We've got two QBs but I'll bite... who is it?

It's a stretch from last year, from Alex Smith.

He actually had 9 consecutive games without an INT (but they lost the first 3).

I think Dak (right now) compares very much to Alex Smith - obviously, with a much better line and skill people.

I don't think that's a bad thing at all, as I think Alex Smith is a very capable QB. However, he is not in Romo's league.

"Not in Romo's league" is based on a lot of assumptions about Romo being able to indefinitely replicate what he did in 2014 in spite of his age and injury issues.

Not just based on 2014. Based on his career. There's no reason to think his injury issues will impact his play as long as he has recovered. It's a remarkably easy and realistic assumption to make.

I'd say you're half right, anyway.

How many QBs had elite seasons at 36+ after multiple major injuries requiring multiple surgeries?

There's probably not a very large sample size to even look at. Especially since you would have to further limit it to QBs who were elite already (very unlikely someone who wasn't elite before would suddenly become so after 36).

Only one I can even think of would be Peyton Manning.

How many elite QBs were still elite, got hurt, fully healed, then came back and weren't still elite?

Rich Gannon? It's the only one I can think of off the top of my head.

Romo (2014 including playoffs) and Manning (2013) that I can think of.
Maybe some others in the past I can't think of.

No but I do what this guy

6'02" 226lbs
125 out of 182 68.7% for 1,486
7 passing TD and 3 rushing TD and 1 int
Helping his team to a 5-1 record after 6 games

Who knows he could have success like this guy

6'04" 225lbs
104 out of 156 60% for 1,0869
7 passing TD and 4 ints

and 3-3 after his first 6
Heck this guy even managed to make it to the SB that year.... His name was Tom Brady.

I wouldnt mind. Alex Smith went to the championship game. Romo has done what in this league besides 2 playoff wins, and only 4 trips to the playoffs in 10 years?

Alex Smith has eclipsed 9.0 yards per attempt 5 times over the last 51 games he has played.

Dak Prescott has eclipsed 9.0 yards per attempt 4 times in the first 6 games of his career.

Ignored

Dak is on pace for a 4,000 yard season, the other guy might get his first this season. Dak has better skill players? What these guys do last season? Most thought Williams sucked and Butler was nothing... Dak has done nothing but win with them!

Dak Prescott has a much better supporting cast than Alex Smith.

To be at an Alex Smith level at this point is very impressive, it's not a knock. That is who his play is reminiscent of. It's minimal risk, safe throws, and on an occasion, he can run. He's not going to light you up, but he'll be efficient. It's not bad, especially if you have a great defense and running game, but it's not the ideal either.

I don't know if that will always be the kind of QB he is, or if he'll move up at some point to the upper echelon. There's so much he hasn't faced, and so much to learn, that it's hard to say. It's just what he looks like right now.

Considering Smith is a 12 year vet and former first overall pick in the draft that is complimentary comparison with Dak only a half dozen games into his career. Tells me Dak's ceiling is much much higher than Smith's.

Alex Smith does not have the leadership, poise, or presence that Dak has. You also have to look at recent stats. If Romo played in 6 games last year he would have 7 TD 11 INT and QB rating of about 70. That is compared to Dak 7 TD 1 INT and a QB Rating of 100+.

This is also not making excuses for either QB, as both would have a TON.
