Do you like NASCAR?

I watch a race once in a blue moon. I used to hate having my sports programming taken up by a bunch of freaking cars that never seemed to anything different other than the occasional spectacular crash. Then a buddy who was really into NASCAR explained to me the techniques of racing, the pit crew duties, the history, and it really got a lot more interesting.

Still... I'd much rather go to one of those Richard Petty Driving Experience fantasy schools instead of watching it. Seems like a fun thing to do, but not much of a watchable "sport."

You can't really get interested if you don't have a driver to follow and cheer for. I never watched it, or just watched for a wreck. Then I started following Kurt Busch in 2003. The next year he won the championship. I've been hooked since.

I just don't understand how you go about picking a driver to follow. They all seem the same to me. When they come out and do interviews they all say... Well the Lowe's chevrolet was performing pretty well today. I gotta thank Pepsi for keeping me hydrated, bridgestone for putting tires on the lowe's chevrolet, shell for putting gas in my tank, caterpillar for putting their name on my hood, and these other 20 sponsors for buying patches on my jumpsuit. I also wanna thank the National Guard for what they're doing in Iraq.

one of the main reasons people don't get into NASCAR is because of where they live. most people in new york city don't follow racing because they think its a stupid hick sport and requires no skill. NASCAR is not religiously followed in the north like it is in the south.

NASCAR is the official sport of the south. It originated in the Carolinas during prohibition. moonshiners would dodge the local sheriff during the day, and race their moonshin' cars at night at the dirt track to see who's is the fastest. NASCAR is appealing to southerners and all other NASCAR fans because they can all relate to driving, unlike people in the North who can take public transportation everywhere they need to be. NASCAR appeals to the common blue-collar worker because it was created by the working man in the 1950's.

I follow the #48 Lowe's Chevrolet because my dad worked at Lowe's as an extra job when I was in high school to help save money for my college education and put me through private high school. Thats why I'm loyal to Jimmie Johnson.

Everyone has their own reasons for following a driver, and once you find your favorite for whatever reason, you'll be hooked.

OK I have to disagree. It has more fans in the south, and it may have originated in the south, but it is not the official sport of the south. Football easily has that covered.

everyone here needs to realize NASCAR is the biggest sport in the U.S. I guarantee you NASCAR fans follow their drivers more religiously than any other sport on the planet.

I will watch the last 5 or 10 laps of a race but other then that I need a blanket and a pillow. I dont see how people can sit there for hours on end watching people make left turns in a giant circle.
