Do you make this trade with Seattle?

Actually, you're only giving two picks.

You're giving up a 2nd and two 4ths.

You're getting Earl Thomas and a 3rd.

In effect you traded a 2nd and a 4th for Thomas, and getting another 3rd for your other 4th.

You'd have 4 players after tonight: Vander Esch, ET, and two 3rd round picks.

Me likey.

Honestly...if we are set on ET....then I think this is the likely scenerio...

Cowboys trade 2/50 and 4/116 and 4/137 to Seattle for....

3/76 and Earl Thomas?

That leaves us w/ 2 3rds....Then we go TE and WR

Comments?;)

It all depends on the extension cost...if we can extend him at a reasonable cost?

Yes

That's a tough call. I might be inclined to say yes.

Then use the 3rd round picks to grab say St. Brown and an OG like Corbett or a guy like Rankins.

Then I see if Bennie Logan's price has come down and give him a one year deal.

I've then added Logan at DT, LVE at MLB and Thomas at S. I've drastically improved my up the middle defense.

Logan signed w/ Tennessee...

You have a 0% chance of getting a player in the 2nd round remotely as good as Earl Thomas.
False. There have been many players taken in the 2nd round and later rounds that proved to be better than Thomas. It's not likely, but to say 0% is simple wrong. Ever hear of Tom Brady or Joe Montana? Darren Woodson? Mike Singletary? There are literally hundreds of other players that the same thing could be said about.

Because he won't be an All-Pro level talent.

Earl Thomas is special. He's also brilliant, and it'd be nice to have more than Sean Lee on this defense that understands this dadgum game.

There is a very good chance he just wants to get paid

Seattle will release him next year

I've said throughout that I'm giving my 4th for a 1 year rental or the 3rd if he agrees to a reasonable 3-4 year deal

I get that but we also will be getting a 29 year old, who wants to get paid and we really don't know how he will hold up past 30. Do I trust our front office with 2nd rounders? No. But I also think Seattle is desperate because he can walk next year. Make them sweat and give up a 3rd. Just not a second. We have no reason to blink right now.

Tougher call now, since it looks like the team is unexpectedly looking to take a TE as early as tonight

I would do it if push comes to shove, but I wouldn't be quick to do it. I'd wait until the clock is on for 50 and, if Reid is there, tell Seattle we're picking him unless they're ready to deal ET for a 3rd and 5th.

ET would make us better this year, no doubt, and probably next year, but the notion that he's at his prime is folly. He's got 8 years of NFL wear and tear. He was in his prime in years 4-7. At this point, he's peaked and declining going forward. The decline may not be precipitous, but it's highly likely his best are behind him.

Possibly, maybe even probably. But what about in 2 years? Will ET at 31 with 10 years wear and tear be better than a player at 22-24 with only 2 years? Who knows, but it's safe to say ET has probably peaked and will be declining going forward. Add in the $10+ MM you have to commit to him and the player you won't be able to sign in FA for that money and it's not as clear-cut as it seems.

I'm more or less out on Earl Thomas. With Witten mulling retirement... I need all my picks.

You only have 9 Gazillion of them because of Comp picks. You don't need a stud at TE to win in this league. I honestly believe that we can win without a major upgrade at WR or TE over what we already have (even without Witten or Dez). If you can find some decent value for a TE, I say sure, otherwise, I'd rather have a great D and let Dak and Zeke play ball control. If we can sign him, bring on Earl Thomas!

Okay, you have a 7.7% chance.

Who are you getting at 50 who's better than Earl Thomas?

That's the wrong question
I'm betting we keep the rd 2 pick AND get Thomas

Thomas is looking for a payday
There was a rumor a year or so ago he wanted to retire
Seattle clearly is done with him and he with them
They have NO options but to trade him to us or release him next year

So, I guess I'm not understanding why I have to give up a premium pick for him

This was a tweet a week after he broke his leg...a man can feel sorry for himself in a moment of weakness can’t he?

He worked his *** off to come back and went straight to the Pro-Bowl

People always seem to say that and then the guy plays with a chip on his shoulder, has a great season and then makes a ton in FA. If you can get them to budge for 81 and sign him, then I'm all for it. Anything less, Seattle won't go for it. They will be happy to keep his services for another year to let him play for a pay day.

Safeties can play well into their 30s.
