Do you realize... (Tom Brady's numbers)

Romo has played well beyond expectations, but a 5 TD game against one of the NFL's worst passing defenses doesn't make him worthy of comparison with Brady yet, especially considering 4 of those TD's were 2 yards or less. I think he's a great player but he was 4 MB3 running plays away from having 1 TD pass.

With all due respect, Tom Brady has played in a playoff game, he's won a playoff game (all but one), he's played in a superbowl, and he's won one (every one he's played in)

These things should be considered as well

What makes you think that these things are not considered?

Need I remind you of your own teams views on McNabb earlier this year? All things are relative. It is not a crime to mention Romo in the same presence as other contemporaries. Nobody is saying he is Tom Brady. We are saying that the things he has done, to this point, are things that not even the great Tom Brady has accomplished. The first post clearly states that I believe Tom Brady is the best QB in the league.

Considering what Romo has done and the recent history of Dallas QBs, I think it is entirely appropriate to discuse Tony Romo and our high hopes for him on this board.

That, of course, is just my opinion.

I wasn't saying that Romo was better than Brady. But thanks for stating the obvious.

But the guy's not 6'5" like Payton, and teams are beginning to accumulate film on him!

I'm excited, but I would like to see Romo do it through next season before I put him near Brady.

Who would have thought a comparison to Brady would even be within reason a few months ago!

That Tom Brady's highest QB Rating for a game, ever, was 148.3?

Thats pretty good for a great QB that isn't a prolific passer like say Peyton Manning, Brett Farve, or Dan Marino. Brady is closer to the Aikman mold than a prolific passer mold. Romo is following the steps of Brett Farve, not Aikman or Brady.

Do you guys really buy this "teams do not have game film of him yet" stuff, because to me, the game film you have to have is the Cowboys receivers, not Romo. Romo is going to hit the open WR if there is one. If you are going to stop Romo, you have to cover his options and I don't really believe there is a team that can successfully defend TO,TG,PC, WItten and the Rb's when they are on the field.

I don't buy it. It only takes 2 or 3 games for good DCs to start taking you appart.

To me, it's not about scheming him any more. To me, it's about the teams out there who have the talent on defense to dictate to our offense, as a whole, what we can and can't do. If you want to stop Romo, IMO, you have to complete shut down the run game and make us one dimensional. If you can't do that, you can't have success against Romo outside of him just having a bad day. Right now, he's seeing it. Playoffs and the pressure that goes along with that may be different but we won't know that till we get there. That is how I see it.

He's never thrown for 5 TDs in one game.

The highest QB Rating, for a season, Brady has ever had was 92.6.

I believe that Tom Brady is the best QB in the NFL. Certainly, top 5. I just can't believe what Romo is doing. I have to constintly remind myself that he has only played 7 games and that I must tempor my enthusiasam. It's just remarkable how well this young man has performed in the last few weeks.
Its Drew Bledsoe's fault that Romo will always be compared to Brady.

Tony Romo has better career stats than Tom Brady. How's that for saying both names in the same breath?

Here's another one: Tom Brady has never put together a 5 game stretch like Romo has.

:laugh2: Romo has 5 starts!!!.......he needs to do alot more to be mention with Brady..ALOT MORE....

Agreed. With everything

Fair enough, I just misunderstood. Sometimes the obvious needs to be stated.

In contrast, I think there is something to it. Bledsoe actually had decent numbers last year, and this was a large part of it IMO. Parcells caught them off guard with how he used Bledsoe. He actually had a career type year. Eli Manning, I think, is another good example. Ben Rothlisberger is another. I think coaches pick up on the design of things pretty quick, but the players also have to pick up on tendencies and weaknesses before they can execute fully.

I don't think the "step down" will be that great. I honestly believe that Dallas has found their franchise quarterback. I just think that Romo is going to come down to earth a bit.

Those are pretty much all bad examples in my opinion.

Bledsoe: His season hit the downturn not because of tape, but rather because his left tackle was replaced by the likes of Torrin "Turnstile" Tucker.

Eli: He's really been up and down over the past 3 years. Hardly attributable to tape. His biggest problem is accuracy, plain and simple. No amount of scheming causes him to throw the inaccurate passes he does, he just simply isn't an accurate passer.

Ben: I don't buy that it took 30+ games before teams had sufficient amount of tape on Ben. It seems more likely that either (1) his bad play is the result of being in a life-threatening accident in which he lost a few of his marbles, or (2) he was simply a bus driver his entire career and every single time he's been asked to step up in a big game or to come from behind he's faltered.

It's interesting that you mention this. I was commenting on this in another thread just this morning. Bledsoe's success and subsiquant down fall, last year, had more to do with injury then anything IMO. In his first 6 games, when the OL was healthy, he put up very good numbers. When Adams was injured, that really impacted Bledsoe's ability to produce. Bledsoe is a guy who can be game planed around because he has an identifiable weakness. The whole in his game is glaring if he doesn't have exceptional protection.

In Romo's case, his weakness has not been found. I suspect it's because he doesn't have much of one. Don't get me wrong, he's not superman but there has been sufficiant time for opposing DCs to break him down and scheme him. In fact, teams have tried this already but he has managed to overcome.

How long it takes to find a given QBs weakness is really what I'm addressing. Good DCs can find the weakness in a few games. Exploiting it is of course another story. To this point, I have not seen a great deal of weakness in Romo's game. Of course, time is the true evaluator.

I do agree with you thou. It would be almost beyong belief to expect Romo to continue to have the success he has had thus far. In short, it's never happened and I don't expect it will here. I'm certain you are correct in predicting a few bumps in the road.

On Big Ben, I agree with you. Let me say that I do believe he will bounce back. He was too prolific a passer in college for me to believe he will not eventually overcome this season in time. His off season was horrible. I can't imagine anybody having much worse. The thing that I do believe, in the case of Roath is that the departure of the BUS is having much more impact then anybody ever thought. That running game needs to be fixed and I'm sure it will be eventually.

I love Romo as much as the next guy, but to compare him at this point to everything Brady has accomplished is ludicrous. And to say Brady doesn't have "it"??? The guy has one 3 superbowls with a rotating WR crew and really no stud RB to lean on for the first 2. And didn't he have a different lead WR each year? I'm sure he'd do fine with Terry, TO, Witten and Julius/Marion. Oh yeah, throw Crayton in that too.

I think what Romo is doing now is pretty much unprecedented for his first 5 starts (Would have to look up guys like Marino and Warner), but to compare him to Brady is unfair to Brady and to Romo.

I think what we can say is they share the same trait of making everyone around them better, and how can you not love that?
