Do you think Parcells will sacrifice this team just to win a SB

Do you think Parcells with keep rebuilding or just go for the SB right now.

Marcus Coleman at FS
Jason Fabini at RT
Kevin Mawae at C
Jerald Sowell at FB
Willie McGinnest LB

Does Parcells bring in these guys to "quick fix" this team or keep looking for younger players to help this team in the furture?

I think it alright to bring in some vets for leadership and to fix a problem but we already have enough needs to fill in 2 years let alone building the team for a one year run at the bowl.

I think we will do as most others do bring in some vets and build for the future in the draft. Last 2 drafts have produced some good starters who will only get better.

No, Say what you want about Parcells, but the one thing he has done is leave every team in a better position then when he got there. That was one of his and Jerry's mission statments when he came on board, and I think he will leave the Cowboys in great shape, ie player wise when he re-retires...

I think BP's long term goal has always been, build a winner for now and plan for the future as well. So we should see another mix of veterens and youth on the team. What is the % he always quotes 20% to 30% of your roster usually turnsover anyway.

He wants to leave this team in good shape for the future. But seeing how they could have been close last year, he and JJ may go after a few more vets this year than normal, because JJ says they "are going for it"

What kind of thread?

Where every imbecile with an ax to grind with Coach Parcells comes out and claims he is just out for his own legacy and doesn't care about what he is doing to our beloved team?

If what he wants to do is win a championship, I fail to see what everyone's big problem is.

Unless of course it is to complain that things are not being done their way, which coincidentally doesn't add up to a damn thing and is utterly laughable.

I don't have an axe to grind with Parcells..... I'm VERY happy he's here....

win now = bring in TO in most peoples mind... never mind the fact that we need to beef up the OL.... (quietly) I was referring to a TO thread...shhhhh!:D

those 5 guys you listed probably dont "fix" anything

everyone of them are old, and way past their primes...Coleman isnt a ball hawk type FS and was average AT BEST at that position last yr...McGinest will be 35 during the season and has had no more than 6 sacks in eight of his eleven seasons...Fabini and Mawae are both old (especially Mawae) and both are coming off major injury

we need real upgrades at RT, OLB opp Ware, FS and probably C...we dont need to tread water anymore with stop gap guys who you cross your fingers and hope they somehow make it through a yr

if they sign those players to fill the holes here and do nothing else, it'll be a massive failure for an offseason IMO, and would be setting us up for another mediocre to so-so season next yr

If Parcells wins a championship, I don't care if he guns down the entire team with an AK-47 after the game.

:lmao2: And he may do that just to:

Prove a point to the media and fans

Because he is just a Giants Homer trying to ruin it for cowboys fans.

Because he is just doing it for his ego that he can take out a whole team.

Because it would increase his betting time at the horse track.

Because not only does he not like young players, he does not like old players talking to young players.

Because he only likes his older players and they are not getting any younger.

Because most importantly...he is the devil.

But Willie can still make plays. His #'s might not be there but he still makes big plays when need to be.

I hope Bill keeps doing what hes been doing. Finding key vetrans to help teach and know what Bill wants. But he needs to focus on the offensesive side of the ball if he's going to set us up for years to come. We are old on this side of the ball.

If Bill was looking to just win right now and was not concerned about building for the future Dallas would be trading draft picks away to get vet players regardless if they were RFA or UFA. I know Bill like any coach is focused on getting this team to the top but he has not done anything that would indicate he is not looking out for the future of this ball club just as well.

It's a WIN NOW league. Surely you are not foolish enough to think that a coach can build a decades long dynasty anymore. I think BP has done an excellent job of building this team for the future while also putting us in a position to win now.. We have a great young TE, three promising runningbacks, a phenomenal group of young Defense playmakers. We have a couple of young qbs were are grooming.

BP has done both.

But one question bugs the hell out of me, if he win a Super Bowl next year, how could that EVER be considered sacrificing a team? That's the whole point of the team!

I think, many teams look to win now...and worry about tomorrow when it arrives.

That said, in some ways, I think the real measure of Parcells stay in Dallas will be how the team fares after he leaves.

In his last two stops, both teams have done quite well after he got them back on track...then again, it seems the situations weren't as driven by a "win now" mentalilty as we are seeing in today's NFL.

By the way, do you think on the Cardinals or Jaguars or Texans or Titans or a number of other teams you would ever see the phrase "... just to win a SB" used in a critical or dismissive manner?

Which puts him ahead of Davis.

And what are the alternatives? Chavous has the same problems as Coleman (age and more of a SS). Pittsburgh seems to have zero problems letting Hope walk away, and while he's certainly younger than Coleman there is little evidence he is any better a player. We can go high in the draft on a FS, but signing Coleman to a short term deal doesn't prohibit that in any way (ironically, Hope would, as he would want a bigger/longer contract than Coleman is likely to).

McGinest will be 35 during the season and has had no more than 6 sacks in eight of his eleven seasons...
He's had no fewer than 6 sacks in all but 2 of his 11 seasons. He is and has always been a consistently productive player.

Quick, other than Ware, name the last Dallas LBer to record 6 sacks? (yes, I know, unfair question considering we were a midget 4-3 defense for so long, but still....)

For a 1-2 year deal as a transition player until Burnett and any new draftees this year get up to speed, I fail to see how this doesn't help the team (depending on the contract, of course).

Fabini and Mawae are both old (especially Mawae) and both are coming off major injury
Fabini's injury is I believe a torn bicep, it hardly warrants much concern on a long term bases. And again he's an instant upgrade to what we have now, and lessens the pressure that we have to draft a T and start him as a rookie.

Mawea I agree with you, he's more of a concern at a lesser area of need.

we need real upgrades at RT, OLB opp Ware, FS and probably C...we dont need to tread water anymore with stop gap guys who you cross your fingers and hope they somehow make it through a yr
Suggestions?

We're not going to break the bank for Hutchinson, and Bentley is going to be extremely overpaid. What else is there on the OL?

At LBer Peterson is probably too small for Bill. Arrington is talented, but obviously brings his own baggage that makes the huge contract demands he and the Postons are likely expecting risky.

I don't see anyone else that is a clear cut better player than McGinnest.

if they sign those players to fill the holes here and do nothing else, it'll be a massive failure for an offseason IMO, and would be setting us up for another mediocre to so-so season next yr

So are they going to cancel the draft?

Personally I think this is a pretty lousy FA class all around, unless you happen to like the TO idea. The only decent, young, relatively available O-lineman is Bentley, and he's going to command a fortune - probably more than Wahle got last year, which most of the league thought was a huge signing for a tackle, much less a guard.

Other than TO and Bentley, or Hutchinson if the Alexander signing proves crippling to the Seahawks, I don't see a whole lot of real talent out ther in FA worth breaking the bank for. If that's the case, I'm fine with older, stopgap guys who will be cheaper and want shorter deals as long as we draft solid youth to develop behind them.
