Do you think Wade's DC choice comes from within the

organization or do we go outside?

Yhea, yhea, I know, it doesn't matter because Wade's really the DC.

Well, Wade had to assume the responsibility because Stewart was not qualified.

Otherwise, I think Wade would be quite happy to share input and let the new DC run the type of defense Wade is looking for thus allowing Wade to take a step back and coach the entire team.

I would suspect that out of our current staff, our DL coach would probably have the edge vs. Campo given his experience in the 34 defense.

That said, I HOPE we hire another coach as DC with solid 34 experience and throw him into the mix.

Curious as what you guys/gals think the direction we go?

Dallas will go internal with Todd Grantham or Dave Campo as DC. Continuity.

Here's my guess:

I think the new defensive coordinator will be someone who is already on the staff. Maybe it's Grantham, Herring, or even Campo...

But I think this is going to be Wade's defense regardless.

And I think that one of those guys has the best chance at getting that job so that Jerry has an "in-house" candidate in case he decides to can Wade and go to Garrett at some point in the future.

Not the answer I was hoping to hear!

I hope you're wrong, but given JJ, it wouldn't surprise me one bit.

I guess it also depends on who else is out there. But I suppose that Wade would only have released Stewart if he had someone (or a couple of candidates in mind).

If it was internal, then why not promote the guy already?

Do you think that either Grantham, Herring or Campo distinguished himself this past season?

Just curious . . . . I think our LBs generally played better.

You can't really judge assistants like that.

Herring has the least experience, but I thought his unit probably played the best.

I also thought he may have been interested in going back to the college ranks.

I wonder why there is a need to have a Defensive Coordinator?

Its seems like the best candidate for the job is already on the Coaching Staff.

Probably comes down to fact that Wade Phillips can only be pulled in so many directions and attend so many meetings.

Maybe they know something about other coaches that might end their contracts after the SB? The Steelers run the 3/4 right? Maybe they might be looking at one of them?

But, yeah...if in house, get it done and move on.

I agree.

I hope whoever is hired as defensive coordinator is defensive coordinator in name only, because Phillips should be calling the game, unquestionably.

I'd hope Wade would want to spend his time going through all the details of pulling together gameplans, looking for the extra "edge", constantly evaluating his players and possibly churning a few roster spots to improve the team, etc.

I think spending much of his time as the DC, or having to implement most of the defensive gameplan, would detract from all the other responsibilities.

Well, it might have come down from Jerry that Wade, if he wants to keep working here, has to be the DC as well as the HC. If that is the case, the reason why we would wait to promote someone would be to keep him from taking another job.

Of course, we could also be looking to bring in a guy like Gary Gibbs and are waiting to see how Herring's situation plays out to determine whether Gibbs is a DC or LB coach for us.

In general, DC is not going to be a desirable job here because any success is going to be attributed to Wade (much like happened to Ron Rivera in Chicago) so we are probably not looking at anyone that is going to get any of us particularly excited.

Last night on dcfanatic's Radio show I predicted Reggie Herring would spurn Oklahoma State's offer to be their DC and would become Wade's DC instead. We'll get a new LB Coach.

Sure, but there is no reason that someone like Grantham who was DC in Cleveland or Campo couldn't have some of those responsibilities. Campo especially as he is one of two guys coaching DBs.

You think Dat is the new LB coach or that we go after Gibbs? Or something else?

Any inside info there, Hos? Or best educated guess at this point?
