Any of you have favorite documentaries or any recommendations. I'm a documentary buff. So I'll add a whole bunch I like later. Just wanted to start a thread about docs!

Carl Sagan baby!

I'm actually really enjoying the new "Through the Wormhole" with Morgan Freeman that is on the Science Channel right now. (the shows aren't over yet either!)

I'm watching King Corn right now...it's slow. But that's to be expected.

Three recommendations that were on Netflix streaming at one point and may still be:

'Man on Wire', 'Touching the Void', and 'King of Kong'

Edit: And just to add some emphasis, 'Touching the Void' is one of my favorite movies of all time. You HAVE to see it.

Avoid everything Michael Moore has ever done. I mean everything. That is the best advice I can give.

I live by one rule. Don't ever listen to an Aggie.

I think I saw that in my queue. I'll watch it after this nerdy corn movie.

So far, King Corn is putting me to sleep so I need a good one.

Edit: King Corn got the boot. Watching Touching the Void now. :)

Thanks

The Tillman Story and Restrepo are very good.

Just saw one called The Bridge, it's about suicides on the Golden Gate bridge, brutal but good.

Also liked ***** Camp and Catfish, both kind of disturbing but good.

I love docs.

Sweet. You won't regret it.

King Corn was alright. It was interesting just how there is absolutely no money in growing corn unless the government throws money at it. It just wasn't all that entertaining.

I'm biased. I like my own. I was contracted to write 7 of a 13 part series and then they folded it after only filming the one episode. That sucked because I really liked the idea. At least I got paid.

What was it?

Any idea what channel that is on w/ Dish Network? I don't see it in my listings and can't find it on their website. Sounds like an interesting show.

Im not really big on documentaries, but I really enjoyed the Cove.

Cocaine Cowboys.
Expelled:No Intelligence allowed.
Anvil:The Story of Anvil.

and I concur with the Michael Moore remark.

Ah yes. I almost forgot about 'Cocain Cowboys'. That's definitely a good watch. It's amazing just how much of the skyline of Miami was built using drug money.

Some of my favorites:

"Cosmos" by Carl Sagan

"When we left Earth", Discovery series about NASA and the space program

Some of the ESPN 30 for 30 films

"The King of Kong", film about a guy trying to set the donkey kong world record. I know, seems like a weird and boring subject to make a documentary about but it's actually incredibly well made and a interesting look at the lives of some truly bizarre people

Wikipedia says it's channel 193 on Dish Network.
