Does anyone else think Jerry might go for Clowney?

I was putting together a mock and the idea that Jerry might go for Jadeveon came to mind.

1. His pass rushing super star is in decline, and I'm in belief that in Jerry's mind, Clowney is = or > than Ware.

2. Jerry is not one to shy away from big trades. If he's willing to give up a 2nd on Claiborne, I could see him dropping a 2nd and an early 2015 pick for Clowney.

3. Jerry already has a big investment in the secondary, and I don't believe he's willing to give up on the Cailborne/ Carr combo. So, the best way to cure a secondary is a better pass rush.

4. Speaking of the Claiborne/Carr offseason, I can see Jerry putting a similar DL combo in this offseason. A Melton/ Clowney combo sounds very intriguing.

Has this crossed your minds as well??

Not really but of course I wouldn't rule anything out with that idiot.

This team needs a massive overhaul of the roster. You don't do that by packaging picks for one player.

Unless it's a franchise QB, I'm not interested.

If the Cowboys had the 16th pick in all 7 rounds, all of them together wouldn't be enough to trade up to the top 3 based on the trade chart.

Texans are going to repeat the 2006 draft and take the better prospect over the overrated skill position players. Could you imagine Clowney as a stand up edge rusher right behind Watt? Good luck stopping that

Too costly and the fact he seemed to switch off this year is a red flag IMO.

Now of course if he fell to 16 :)

Based on what? Has Jerry ever talked about Clowney? I honestly don't know.

This is why teams trade future picks to move up in the 1st. If the Cowboys wanted to, they could come up with a package to move up: it would just involve the 2015 #1 and some other picks.

Not that I think they should, or will.

Probably a stupid post based on my not following college football until right before the NFL draft, but is Clowney a slam dunk for a top 5 pick at this point? Is it possible he Sharrif Floyd's it out of the top 5 and into the middle first somehow? Just watching his career arc from afar, he'd be a player I had some concerns about in that blue-chip area.

I think Floyd was only top 5 on some teams/analysts boards; whereas, I think Clowney is probably top 5 on all boards. There are zero questions about Clowney's physical ability; whereas, Floyd had short arms and didn't have elite quickness. Clowney will have to do really poorly on the mental-makeup evaluations to fall out of the top 5.

Thanks. He's one of those guys I'd shy away from naturally, if I were doing the picking, because I don't like what little I've heard about the criticisms of him, but it's hard to say if and when those things actually affect draft stock. I know he's got the physical ability aced.

Yes, IMO, more draft picks have failed due to poor mental-makeup (i.e. work ethic, character, etc..) than from a lack of physical ability. I'll limit that statement to the top 3 or 4 rounds.

It would be worse than going for #24 ... They would have to do something like Ditka did going after the #TokeMaster from UT.

Not really. Teams aren't so reliant on that chart and you always have future picks in play.

I don't give a rat's bleep what that chart tells me. If someone offers my a 2nd and 3rd round pick for a swap of 1s and I'm not in love with a player at the top, I'm taking the deal.

Yep cause we all know this team is one player away. Am I right? Thats we he thought with Claiborne trade two years, hasnt quite worked out. Jerry miraculously made a good trade last year, and shouldnt press his luck IMO. If anything a slight trade down. BTW Clowney only plays when he feels like it. I cant see this locker room as a place for him to be the best he can be.

Not sure. Clowney could slide. There's always an OT that sneaks into the Top 5. Maybe a LB and a bevy of QBs.

Clowney's going to want to impress at his Pro Day and Combine to quell any whispers of motivation. If his Pro Day is here in Carolina, I'll try to attend.

Clowney, while good, didn't have a spectacular season last year and that's what worries me about him, it's almost like he took the year off...I think people are remembering that big hit from two bowls ago....IMO, there is NO reason to trade up for him...if for some reason he fell into the teens, then start thinking about it....can't see that happening...

He's gotten two tickets lately for driving around 100 miles per hours. He seems like a me guy. He did take off some this year although to be fair he had an injury or two. He also rushed up the field to make a play too often for me and they ran right at him. And he didn't modify his behavior often. He also go neutralized in some games by one guy. I'm leery of him.

Honest question.....would you guys have played 100% if you were in Clowney's shoes? I know it's easy to sit here and say play for your team and what not, but in reality he had way more to lose than he had to gain by playing hard this year. He watched his teammate Marcus Lattimore lose millions and millions of dollars on 1 play the year before. I can honestly say I don't blame him for not playing as hard as he should have.

And yes, Clowney is a lock for the top 5. He's going to absolutely destroy the combine and there will be no questions.

Ideally, sure. You would want to try your best. However, this is real life. All players mail it in on some plays at some point. Every single player.
