Like how much in guarenteed money, number of years left on contract, and total worth of contract.

Unfortunately player contract information is no longer available to the public through the NFLPA's website.

His contract isn't that big. It was 5 years with $12 million in base salary plus $8 million in signing bonus.

This year his base salary is only about $1.5 million, I believe. Then in the next 2 years is goes up to about $3 million.

Again this is just from memory, but I think it's pretty close.

I am sure it is there somewhere that you have to play well. If not, it should have been. Carp looking over his shoulder now, so he can't take a season off again.

We can let him go after this year because his cap hit would be minimal; If we did it this year which is highly unlikely regardless it would be more prohibitive. I don't mind him on first and second downs TOO much, but I would rather have a LB who can stay on the field all three downs.

It would be close to a $5 million hit as opposed to a $4.5 hit keeping him for that season with a $3.2 million hit for cutting him the following season.

Or it would be about a $10 million hit to keep him over the next 2 years (split about evenly over those years) and then a $1.6 million hit to cut him in his final year.

Thanks for the correction...

Damnit it is worse than I thought. Does the player add that into the contract to prevent the release of said player or is that the norm in player contracts?

Also how did you figure those numbers?

Ok to keep this simple for me, if we cut him after this year (07 season) how much of a cap hit will it be for next season, as in the 2008 season?

Correct.

There's 0% chance James is going anywhere before or during the '07 season.

Yes, it is.

James is signed through 2011. His base salaries are $1.5 million this year, $1.75 million in 2008, $2.623 million in 2009, $2.95 million in 2010 and $3.5 million in 2011. His $8 million bonus is prorated at $1.6 million each season from 2006 to 2010. And he has a $500,000 roster bonus in 2011.

Including his $6,720 standard workout bonus, his cap number this season is $3,106,720.

Thinking logically, what team wants to cut a guy 1-yr into their contract and take the salary cap hit along with it. That's a hard pill to swallow. And tho, they've got some wiggle room, Bradie isn't turd enough to toss out the window. It's creating an unnecessary hole.

His salary is reasonable and it really doesn't preclude them from benching him, if necessary.

We could cut him next year and it would cost us 4.8 million if my math is right. Thats a little pricey, but I'm sure we'll have the cap room for it.

That was kinda my point with the post. It wouldn't necessarily even make sense financially cutting him this year or next.

Adam, since he got his bonus in 2006 and that year wasn't part of his 5 year extension, were we able to pro-rate his signing bonus over 2006 as well, meaning it's 8 million spread over 6 years?

Agreed; My only thoughts about Bradie leaving this team were AFTER this season.
