Hey guys, to my knowledge, the bengals moved up in the lottery draft to take Ahmad Brooks, they made a trade with some other team, to get Brooks. Does anyone know what team that was that the Bengals traded with up to get Brooks?

Yeah, if they did make a trade with some team what did the bengals give up. I was just wondering, if that team they made the trade with (was it us-the dallas cowboys, because if it was, we lost our 3rd round in 2007 draft) but what did we get in return?

I dont think it was us, but as you all probably know, if we do as good as some scouts, general managers, writers say, then we will be picking in the low 20's to 32 pick in 3rd round.

But, if we did make a trade with the bengals, maybe it was a higher pick, and future draft pick. Sure, you taking a chance of getting a better pick, because the bengals have a pretty good team now, so their pick will be in low 20's to 32 pick in 3rd round. so i was just wondering what team the bengals traded with if their was a trade.

Everything I've read just stated they gave up a third in next year's draft. Although, it was stated by saying they jumped ahead of other teams, but it doesn't say they made a trade to do it.

Where'd u read that a trade was made?

Some football news with on-the-field and living room ramifications.

– The Bengals took Virginia LB Ahmad Brooks in the third round of the supplemental draft yesterday. ESPN scribe Len Pasquarelli mentioned that Cincinnati traded up in the third to acquire him, but didn’t relay which team brokered the deal. Teams can trade supplemental picks in this way. It means the unknown team gets Cincinnati’s 3rd rounder in the ‘07 draft and that the selecting teams ‘07 third is now void, exchanged for Brooks.....

That makes no sense to me at all. So the team they traded with now has Cincy's 3rd rounder and their original 3rd is null. Well what happens if they finish lower than Cincy and would have had a better 3rd but now they have to pick at Cincy's spot which is worse. I don't get it!

They have Cincy's spot regardless. Cincy used another team's pick. It doesn't matter where the pick ends up. The pick that was used is gone.

It is like any trade -- they got sometime else to make the move.

That was the same thing I wa saying in the thread I listed above. It makes no sense taking that risk of swapping picks not knowing where both teams will finish next year. The only way this would make sense is if there was an additional pick included or a conditional pick dependant on where both teams finish.

Since this is only a supplemental draft, I'm curious about what draft order did all the teams have to begin with... the same order we saw in April when we selected Carpenter or something slightly modified??

Right, I thought I had read that where the Bengals made a trade with some other team to move up and get Brooks. If someone finds out lets me know, I am just curious if it was us that traded with the Bengals. And what picks we got if it was us.

Well I hate to second-guess Vela. But I searched Pasquerelli's archives and nothing in them stated there was a trade. I think he may have written that initially and then it was removed from the article. The only official report is written by John Clayton and he only wrote that a 3rd was given up.

I went to cincypost.com to see what they had and I came back w/this:

The Bengals, who used the 22nd pick of the third round to take Brooks, forfeit their third-round choice in the 2007 draft.
http://news.cincypost.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060713/SPT03/607130380/1022

As of now, I'm convinced there was no trade, only because I think it would've at least been mentioned in their home paper.

Now don't the Bengals have to get him signed in this years rookie pool?
Funny you ask. This was just posted.

Bengals | Team's rookie pool increases
Wed, 19 Jul 2006 17:54:45 -0700

Geoff Hobson, of Bengals.com, reports the Cincinnati Bengals' rookie pool has increased beyond the original $3.7 million figure due to the selection of LB Ahmad Brooks in the NFL's supplemental draft.

The 22nd pick in the third round was New England's pick. So maybe they did make a trade.

I've been a draftnik for a long time. I was under the impression you couldn't trade Sup. draft picks?? I'd like to learn more about this. The draft sittes i've been to have been vague about the subject.

Was that New England's pick in the Regular draft? Because the order is not necessarily the same in the Supplemental draft. I have not seen a list of the draft order for the Sup.

Yes, in the regular draft. How is the draft order different in the supplemental draft? I've always heard it's the same..

I don't know exactly how it works but in the Supplemental they have a sort of lottery for the lower one third of the the league, another for the middle third and yet another for the upper one third to determine draft order. I have read several explaination of how they do it and none of them quite match (and some don't even make sense) but I do know that they use some sort of lottery system based on where your team fell in the regular draft.
