Does anyone remember this?

I mentioned this in a thread a few weeks ago. I remember when he was drafted he said he would play 8 years and yes, it concerned me then because that isn't something a guy with a true passuon for the game would say. That sounds like a guy who wants to get his $$, get in and get out healthy.

I definitely think he's playing soft these days to protect his body. He even mentioned on the Jim Rome radio show a few weeks ago that he had to pick his spots to make big hits because of the wear and tear on his body.

That's definitely anti-Ronnie Lott!

:D Honestly, even though some people think it is stupid, I have to agree with the guy who thinks it might be because he doesn't fit well into the 3-4 system. Out of curiosity did Roy's decline start when we switched from 4-3?

i honestly think it started when woodson got hurt and retired. woodson basically had roys back when it came to coverage and allowed roy to freelance and make disruptive plays.

That vid brings a tear to my eye. What happened to that guy?

He got his payday...

Or

There might be some validity in the 4-3 to 3-4 argument. I'm not an X's and O's guy, so I can't say for sure, but the difference in his playing is glaring and it should get addressed by owner and coach. He's not playing like that anymore.

He is a friggin safety, not a linebacker or an end.

Ok.
A little too brief to be explicit.

He said it, and I've speculated recently that he already retired and forgot to tell anyone.

Seriously, I don't think football is that important to him.

Yep. I gotta say, your on the mark today.

No, 4-3 vs. 3-4 makes no difference in Roy's decline.

Like Chief and the others said, I think it's all about desire. Roy just doesn't get amped up for the game like he used to.

Interesting quote from CA about Roy taking it easier because of his body wearing down. Many of us have speculated about that, but this is the first time I've heard him admit it.

Secondary coverages don't change much from the 34 to the 43 IMO.

wow, if roy played like that right now imagine how this D would perform. amazin. but yeah i would agree his play declined once Woodson retired. since then he has had really nobody back there to ''back him up'' with the coverage. so in other words he has had to step up and cover, which is not his best.

I love how a highlight reel is being touted as how he always played before he got the contract.

Pretty sure you could highlight reel the last couple of years too and not tell anyone what year they were from and people would say how much they miss that guy.
