they play the Steelers next Monday night I think...that defense will eat Leftwich and that Jags offense alive...there wont be any streaks of 10 completions in a row or 20+ drop backs in a row without being bothered...he's gonna get hit

he has been rather average since he's been in the league, and I saw nothing yesterday to make me think he is anything other than average now...if he were here playing behind our OL he'd be called a mammoth bust

The Jaguars played on the road against the Superbowl bound Steelers last year and beat them 23-17 in overtime. That was with out Big Ben and Hines Ward in the line up. Leftwich had a pedestrian outing, even struggled some, but certainly didn't play as awful as Bledsoe did for us yesterday. I look at Leftwich as having similar attributes and flaws as Bledsoe except that he is younger and less accomplished and proven.

The Jaguars defense and particularly their Oline is underrated. The Jags are the type of team that usually has to get slobber knocked to get going, and when they do, they go about it unglamorously, beating you up with their generally big athletic personnel.

Living here in Jacksonville I will make you aware there is a bit of a quarterback controversy. As Bledsoe, Leftwich does well if you provide him above average protection. The backup quarterback Garrard who has been playing here half a decade is more athletic than Leftwich. Many if not most Jaguar fans would like to see Garrard start.

I was fortunate enough to get free club seats to this game. It was like a gift of a lifetime to me and would have been that much sweeter had the Boys won. This game was very exasperating to watch. In the first quarter we looked like world beaters and the Jaguars looked like chumps. Then we imploded and then the Jaguars started blowing us up even more.

Thorughout most of the game they were getting first downs at will. The Jaguars receivers had their way with our secondary more often than not. With ample protection Leftwich angled his passes to the receivers all day long.

I vivividly remember gerrard getting his chance last year after Leftwich got hurt. To my recollection, he wasn't half the quarterback Leftwich was. His rating was descent, but he keep throwing alot of balls to his recievers feet.

I don't think Leftwhich will even be the QB in Jacksonville two years from now.

Just curious how you guys feel after watching that game. Would you be willing to give up Terence Newman to have Byron Leftwich. His mechanics are a little off, but he doesn't make bad throws. He looks like he will have a break out year and Matt Jones looked great out there. BP needs to stop neglecting the offense in the draft. Not taking anything away from Newman, but like the saying goes, "you don't pass on a franchise QB unless you got one."
Not no, but HELL NO.

FYI, Leftwich isn't quite a franchise QB. When you have a true franchise QB you will know it. People thought Culpepper was. Nope! Drew Brees, Nope! Trent Green, Nope! Mark Bulgar, Nope! While these guys can be good, they arn't franchise QBs. Franchise QBs can raise a teams play beyond the other players on the field.

There are very few true franchise QBs. Those names are the names that go down in history. Joe Montana, John Elway, Dan Marino, Tom Brady, Troy Aikman, Steve Young, Payton Manning, etc.

With the benefit of hindsight, if we drafted Leftwich and we still wanted a CB but Newman was gone, we could have taken Rashean Mathis with our 2nd pick (1 ahead of JAX's in the 2nd-round). Mathis isn't Newman, but with the exception of maybe Marcus Trufant, he's better than the CB's drafted between Newman and himself, ie. Charles Tillman, Nnamdi Asomugha, Andre Woolfolk, and Sammy Davis.

Personally, I just wish Henry could catch. That throw was worse than any of Bledsoe's. Then, the story is a little different, and we don't have this thread. :)

I thought I liked him when he was coming out and I thought he would be a great pick for us, but after watching him the past few years I have to say his style of play would drive me crazy. So slow and deliberate. If we had the ability to consistently pressure the QB it would have been a different story for him. He's a good young QB, but I don't wish we had him like I do Carson Palmer.

His throwing motion reminds me of Jim Palmer of the old Baltimore Orioles. :)

NO WAY! I don't wish we'd drafted Leftwich. I'd take the best corner in the NFL over a middle of the pack starting QB. In my opinion, Bledsoe is just as good a Leftwich. Big arm, immobile, stands in the pocket for a year and a day.

However, most people don't see that because he didn't look as bad as Bledsoe yesterday. WHY? The Jags got a pass rush on Bledsoe, and the Boys didn't get a rush on Leftwich.

And I look at it this way ... Newman, Bledsoe, and Romo > Letwich.

I wanted Leftwich at the time. Luckily, we landed a franchise player in Newman.

Same here.

Leftwich hasn't progressed into quite the player I expected, so I'm hesitant to say I'd take him over Newman today. But he seems to be on the right track, at the least. He's a leader, got a gun, and has fun while playing. I would be interested to know where we'd be sitting in right now if we had him.

He's better than Bledsoe. That's all I know.

Ask many Jag fans and they are not overly thrilled with Leftwich and have been calling for Garrard to take over. Aikman touched on this subject during the game.

I know people will say Newman is a pro bowl CB, but he has never gotten more than 4 int. Last year he had 3 and could have had more if he hadn't dropped a few. Leftwich was having a great season last year. If he would have stayed healthy and simulating the last games based on his performance at that time:

21.8 TDs and 7.27 int. That would have been a pretty solid season. Nothing flashy but extremely effecient.

Actually I like Newman, but I think Rashean Mathis is still better if you look at his career numbers and the fact that he was drafted in the second round.

Newman isn't a Pro Bowl CB.

He never made the Pro Bowl. Therefore, he is not a Pro Bowl Corner.
