Does History Repeat Itself

Doesn't work that way, ya go with best at the position, Lilly a 7 time All Pro, Staubach...once.
At the time he retired Roger Staubach had the highest quarterback rating in the history of the NFL. As you said you go with the best of the position

ESPN's all time 100 players has Lilly at 26, Staubach at 46. Lilly far closer to being the best DT than Staubach is to being the best QB.

Bob Lilly is the greatest Cowboy, and I am no youngster,
Never will forget that 1970-71 year. Dallas started off with a record of 4-3. Landry had decided to rotate Staubach and Morton that first seven games. Finally, he decided to go with Stabach and I believe they didn't lose another game that year. Great defense, possibly their best ever. The offense was also very good.
