Does It Make Anyone Else Nervous...

I can tolerate a player that looks to the Heavens after a score much easier than I can those "ME, ME, ME" celebrations in the endzone...

I agree...except I think it's almost as "ME, ME, ME" centered as the other...I mean, God is looking down and helping Cortez make his FG? I think not.

And what about the other team that Cortez scores against? God decided he didn't like them on that play?

Geezlouise, these guys need to get a grip.

It ain't that important.

God's got better things to do...like well making the Pea Salad that Cbz showed him when they were both kids.

:D

Ever think he may just be giving thanks? After all he has a lot to be thankful for.

Maybe...

I agree, he does have a lot to be thankful for.

I give thanks...I have a lot to be thankful for also...but when I make a sale at my company...when I have a client sign a big contract, I don't stand in the lobby or parade around the plant, giving thanks toward the heavens.

I quietly say "Thank you"

:)

Nothing wrong with that nor is there anything wrong with what Cortez is doing. Different people different ways. My only concern is he makes his kicks if he does that he can say thanks any way he wants too.

Nope....nothing wrong at all.

I just cringe when athletes take it over the edge, and make the sacred act of saying "thank you" into a promo.

Not saying that is what Cortez is doing but truth of the matter is, he should be saying "thank you" even when he misses.

I don't want to turn this into a discussion about religion but we are not truly loving life if we separate out the "good from the bad" and only say "thank you" for what we perceive to be good.

As I said different people different ways. One size does not fit all. LOL

Don't start to mess up a good debate by being reasonable...

:)

OK...point taken.

Actually, it was in the first place...I'm not denying him his right to do what he wants...I'm just stating my opinion about it.

My only concern is he makes his FG attempts do that and the rest does not matter to me. He could do the Curly shuffle for all I care. LOL

As much as I'd hate to say it... the people who advocate for God are kinda in breach of the 1st Amendment. I'll quickly explain.

When you say something like "Glory be to God" or "God Bless You," you no longer provide the choice that the 1st Amendment requires of you.

You're stating: Believe in the god I do or face the consequences.

When the 1st Amendment requires you to say: I believe in God. You do not have to believe in God or in any kind of deity.

It's a forced acknowledgement instead of the voluntary acknowledgement that people are required to have.

I'm just a little bit passionate about it because of some bad experiences. Beliefs are a good thing to have but it's downright rude to kinda press it on people. I know you guys don't mean anything by it and that's cool and all. I'm proud of you, actually. It takes a lot of guts to believe in something. But... I'm digressing.

Anyway, just thought I'd point that out.

*** are you talking about...the 1st amendment has nothing to do with people "praising god" or whatever...it has to do with government restriction on public speech...yeesh.

Once again a thread topic gets blown out of proportion.

Did you see Cortez after the FG wwhen they called the penalty and he had to kick it again? When he heard the penalty his reaction was like..."OH NO, YOU CAN'T DO THAT, SENOR REFEREE!!"

I thought it was funny. Then when he made the kick they showed him looking up to the heavens in thanks that he made it. It was humorous, that's all.

I really didn't mean to start a discussion about religion, the First Amendment, etc.

Exactly. Who is the one trying criticizing free speech here? It is certainly not Cortez. His gesture of thanks is his speech. It's the Williams' of the world that think he should not be allowed to express himself.

Doesn't really inspire a lot of confidence in me.

Just wondering...

If you watched him kick in SF a couple years ago, you'd know why. It IS a miracle when he makes a kick.

I can't believe Parcells started Vinny last year against the Giants in the last game.

I dunno but I think we should have kept Hutch and dumped QC.

Henson is better than Romo and Bledsoe, combined.

We should have drafted Randy Moss.

:D

This should sidetrack things very nicely.

Giving thanks to the Lord for the opportunity to be a kicker and have a job that pays you $100,000's+ of dollars makes perfect sense to me.

And the whole thing isn't to inspire confidence in you..it's him that's important.

Rather he does that than me throwing beer bottles at my $2,000 TV..

..because for every missed FG, we lose more games because our offense can't score more than 17pts a game.

That ain't going to win nothing in the NFL except another top 10 spot in next year's draft.

So I'm cheering like heck for him. Remember, we don't have Hoffman to fall back on to nurse our kicker's along.

I'd be very happy with Cortez if he keeps his kickoffs as deep as they are and connects consistantly from the 45 on in.

No.......because I think it is like some unwritten rule that NFL kickers have to be head cases. He probably has a priest bless his shoe before every game too.
