Ole' Roger has laid a pretty clear line down on conduct and how he is going to handle it. Now does Roger have the coohoneys to suspend a starting QB for conduct?

I'd be surprised if Vick isn't given a short, unpaid vacation.

Vick hasn't even been accused of dog fighting yet. Just a lot of speculation. If he does get accused of it I think Goodell almost has to act. If he didn't it would be like saying there's a different treatment for superstar players.

So far, only anonymous people say he was part of the dog fighting. If he is actually conclusively linked. I say yes.

Let the Vick story play a little longer just to find out exactly what the authorities have turned up re his latest activities. You know I thought there was a paragraph in all NFL contracts re conduct detrimental to the game/illegal activities etc. In other words, don't teams have the right to penalize players for their offfield conduct? Sounds like Atlanta and most other teams don't have the balls to take care of their own problems and so thrilled to leave it in the hands of the Commissioner. It's kind of funny cause when you look at the new Commissioner he sure just looks like a laid back relaxed kind of guy--maybe a school teacher, etc. But this guy must be some kind of tough individual when he can stare down some of these players.

BTW: Saw an article in the Washington Post that Bears' Tank Johnson(?last name) is scheduled to meet with the Commissioner next Wednesday. There's some speculation Tank gets suspended for the year.

What exactly has Vick done to deserve suspension?

there is a different treatment for superstars, and to be honest I am not sure its a bad thing. Guys like Vick make a ton of money for the NFL its bad business practice to dump on your biggest earners.

NFL was around before Vick and will be here after Vick. No one man is bigger than the NFL even a star player and there are always a new batch of players ready to take his place.

True, but if your agenda is cleaning up the League image, you have to clean it up across the board.

you don't easily replace guys like vick for the league. He is a once a decade type talent. I don't particularly think too highly of him as a person or as a player but Rarely do guys like that come around. And, the NFL being around before means very little, the NFL as a business has never been as profitable as it is today.

There was a photo of him that went around the web some time back of him on his girlfriend's personal web page with a blunt in his hand.

Then there was the whole Ron Mexico ordeal.

Last year the water bottle incident in Miami where it had a hidden compartment and they believed it had weed in it.

Now and illegal dog fighting ring is tied to his property and there is an ongoing FBI investigation to find out if he is involved in it or not.

Same as Chris henry and Pacman, too many questionable associations may end up biting him right in the butt.

The NFL does not need Vick to survive. You have got to be kidding to think any star player is worth more than the league itself. As for Vick talent, he is a great athlete but only a so so QB and even Blank the Owner of the Falcons is getting tired of it.

ATLANTA (AP) -- Concerned that quarterback Michael Vick's recent troubles could bring a suspension from the NFL, Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank said he met with Vick and "could not have been more stern."

Blank told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution he has grown weary of the negative publicity Vick has generated since making an obscene gesture on Nov. 26 to fans at the Georgia Dome after the Falcons lost to New Orleans. Most recently, there has been an investigation into evidence of illegal dog fighting at a property Vick owns in Virginia.

"I told him, 'You represent us as a franchise, you represent yourself as a person and you represent the NFL. It's not one single thing, it's a series of things,"' Blank said.

In another case, Vick was investigated for trying to bring a water bottle -- with a secret compartment police said smelled of marijuana -- through a security checkpoint at Miami International Airport in January. He was not charged in that incident.

Saying some of Vick's problems can be blamed on people around him, Blank said he admonished Vick: "'You're responsible for who you're with. You need to make some difficult choices and you need to make them now. I think you're at a critical point in your life."'

Blank said he asked NFL commissioner Roger Goodell to speak to Vick last month while both were at the NFL draft in New York.

"What (Goodell) will do about it, I'm not sure, but he's not going to take it lightly," Blank said. "He's got Michael on his radar and I think he made that clear to Michael as well."

In response to written questions submitted through the team's public relations department, Vick said he understands it is his responsibility to avoid negative publicity.

Of his meetings with Blank and Goodell, Vick said: "They both challenged me to be more accountable in all areas of my life. I know I need to make some changes around me to make sure that the people in my life have my best interest at heart. My goal is to not let my fans, my teammates or my coaches down."

NFL surviving isn't what I am talking about, how many millions of dollars has vick made for the league? Is the trouble he is in worth losing those millions? From a strictly business standpoint it would be difficult to justify losing the revenue.

It is getting to that point. I could see a 4 game suspension if things continue in this manner for Vick. Maybe not this year, but at some point. He is still not in the class of Henry or Pacman for the frequency of incidents and the degree. Altough this dog fighting thing may be very problematic. It is still too early in the investigation to warrant a suspension. I think things will play out and in the end, Vick may face a suspension. That may take some time.

So are you implying that the revenue is all that matters?

Set a double standard, and you risk paying for the nails in your own coffin. This business of who's more profile than who is where it gets down to it: either the league is bigger than the players, or it's not.

If it isn't, then why play some shell game about disciplining the lesser fish hoping the big fish get spooked? Humans don't typically work that way: the more of them you get together, the more random the behavior gets, until somebody figures it's time to try something in the name of personal freedom to see where the line is drawn.

The Vick situation needs time to shake out: if he's done something illegal, bust him. No under-the-table, handshake business. If he's clean, it's a non-issue.

Oh trust me, if the dog fighting thing comes to fruition the NFL is going to have PETA and the Humane Society and the media all applying pressure to do something.

It is too early right now, but not for concern or for this to be discussed.

How many million has Vick made off the NFL? The USFL thought they could go get star players like Jim Kelly, Steven Young, Walker and some others to compete aginst the NFL and they failed. The NFL is what makes these players not the other way around. From a business stand point Vick could fall off the face of the earth tomorrow and the NFL would not blink.
