Does Mukuamu impact draft plans at CB?

Joseph also committed several penalties. It's not that difficult to find a gunner on special teams, especially one who can actually backup a position. Think either him or Goodwin goes this yr.
Why do we keep resigning Goodwin then? Name our best gunner before Goodwin?

And, “especially one who can actually backup a position?” I think you have that backwards.

Very hard to carry two special teams only players, especially on gamedays. One probably has to go. Don't think they trust either player on defense at this point.
Again, Joseph seems to be dam near as good at gunner, is cheaper than Goodwin who they resigned and still offers far more as a corner in a pinch!

Joseph had a QBR against it 147 when targeted last year lol…
The problem with that stat is "when targeted".

He played 166 snaps on defense and was targeted 18 times.

NFL offenses pass on over 50% of snaps.

Using 50% of 166, he was on the field on at least 83 passing plays.

18 targets of 83 (or more) pass plays.

You can slice it and dice it however you want but that number is abysmal.

Eh, I just don’t see it. They just resigned Goodwin. Joseph is dam near every bit as good at that gunner position, cheaper, and in a pinch, despite his issues offers far far more as a corner!
Lol?

Let me know when Wright’s making plays like Joseph on teams.
LB Luke Gifford was one of the other top ST players and he is gone.

Fassel loves having Kelvin Joseph on ST.

2023 Salaries
Goodwin 1.16M
Joseph 1.36M

There was an interview with Fassel last season after Joseph had the penalty for running into the kicker.

Fassel said it's because he coaches them to be aggressive in terms of crowding the returner.
- He inferred that other ST coaches are more conservative in that aspect.

Fassel went on about how much he loves having Joseph on ST.
- Fassel: " I'll take Kelvin Joseph on my unit a million times out of a million. "

Since Joseph is just a special teams only player now, I think him or Goodwin could be in danger of not making the roster. Wouldn't be surprised if we saw a draft day trade, clearly Fassel is the only one in his corner.

The way they handled CB was odd (after Brown's injury).

It points to coaches no being in agreement on players.
- Quinn, Al Harris and McCarthy likely not in agreement.
- We saw it in 2021 with Connor Williams/McGovern.
- The OL coach wanted to stay with CW but McCarthy made the switch to McGovern.
- After 4 starts by McGovern they switched back to CW.

They gave up on Joseph quickly. He played 166 snaps on defense and gave up 12 passes...
- I'm not certain any of the others they tried were any better than just staying with Joseph.
- Mullen was worse.
- They didn't put Wright into the same difficult coverages as Joseph.
- Wright just played way off and came up to contest once the ball was in the air.
- They didn't really attempt to have Wright play tight coverage.

They ended up with Mukuamu as the 3rd CB in the playoffs.
- Wright & Mukuamu were on the roster from last year and Mullen was on the practice squad for a while.
- If Mukuamu was better than Wright/Mullen, why couldn't they determine that in practice?
- Alexander only played 14 total snaps.

I've lost track of the order, but they tried all of these players at the 3rd CB spot:
Kelvin Joseph
Nahshon Wright
Mackensie Alexander
Trayvon Mullen
Xavier Rhodes
Israel Mukuamu

Joseph certainly lost faith with Quinn as he never saw the field again after being benched against Jax.
