I'm asking a serious question here: does he want out of Dallas? What other reason could he possibly have for dredging up the whole romo/simpson thing? As JJT reported: you just don't say that about a teammate. I've always liked TNew on and off the field but this is......:banghead: I usually don't like JJT or his inflated opinions of himself, but he's right guys, until silly, immature, moronic comments like these by Newman cease and desist this "team" will continue to be a dysfunctional mess. Sucks because it doesn't have to be that way.

This has been my theme the entire off season.

You guys get all pissy because someone hauls off at the mouth about a player or a coach, or about getting the ball etc... This has been going on since before your ancestors were born, and all of a sudden we're freaking out over it.

If you guys wouldn't worry about things that has NOTHING TO DO WITH ON THE FIELD PLAY, then these types of posts wouldn't exist. Ya'll worry about everything under the sun except Xs and Os, so your heart continues to break because when you get 53 men in a room, you'll only find 21 saints.

I second that.

Maybe I need to read it all again, but I feel like he was just saying that the media attention Romo got (including his celebrity girlfriend) took away from his respect as a quarterback. He wasn't saying it affected his play, or that it was a distraction, or that he should break up with Jessica Simpson.

He was simply referring to the media attention that he received, and the fact that a lot of people were looking at Romo as a Hollywood star first, and as a football player second.

Again - I only read one article posted on here about the situation, and to me it did not seem like a big deal.

He didn't say anything that was even remotely bad. I think people, mainly the media, are attempting to read into something that simply isn't there cause they don't have their usual suspect for stiring up trouble with here anymore.

People need to stop jumping the gun, over players comments. Nothing Newman said was anti-Romo. All Newman said was that the media's focus on Romo's relationship was taking away from any good he did on the football field.

Alright, maybe the thread title WAS overdoing it.....BUT why come out and say any of this? That's my original point, good teammates who are supportive and on the same page don't do that. If it was so harmless and inconsequential, why did he come out and issue another statement looking to "clarify" what he originally said? Just sayin'......JJT is right, this isn't how a cohesive, successful team functions. A simple "no comment" would suffice and do wonders, because believe it or not after enough of those, the media would stop asking that particular question. Pittsburgh and N.England don't have this nonsense going on.....we still do:

DMN: Archer: Dallas Cowboys' Newman clarifies remarks on Romo, Simpson
Dallas Cowboys' Newman clarifies remarks on Romo, Simpson

By TODD ARCHER / The Dallas Morning News

IRVING – Terence Newman attempted to clear the air about his remarks about Tony Romo, saying he believes Romo is a great quarterback.

"I've played with this guy for six years, and I played against him in college, so for me to not say that doesn't make sense," Newman said.

Newman was put in a partial firestorm over comments he made to WFAA-TV two weeks ago about Romo's relationship with Jessica Simpson.
Dallas Cowboys / NFL

Newman answered a question about Troy Aikman's assertion that Romo does not grasp what it means to be the Cowboys' quarterback.

"He won 13 games and everything was perfect," Newman said in the interview, referring to the Cowboys' 13-3 regular-season record in the 2007 season. "But now after this past season, it was, 'Is he doing enough for the team? Is he working hard enough? You know, he's got this girlfriend, so ...'

"I think that once he inherited the starting quarterback job and his relationship got into the national media attention, I think that that was something that definitely hurt and took away from Tony Romo being a great quarterback."

The comments never aired on television, but the full interview was put on WFAA's Web site.

Reached Monday, Newman said that, despite the public perception, he doesn't believe Romo's relationship with Simpson affects him.

"The thing they don't see is he might go [out of town] but at the same time he comes back and works out," Newman said. "He's been in there the past couple of weeks with the rest of us. Roy Williams and me and a bunch of guys are in there busting our butts, and he's right there with us. They don't see him working out. They don't see what he puts into the preparation."

As much as you guys want to believe its just about X's and O's it is simply not true. If it were just about on the field play then TO would still be with our team. Team chemistry is something many of you kids from the madden generation like to dismiss. Look at team USA basketball. They have all the best talent in the world but no chemistry and they were embarrassed by guys that couldnt beat many of our college basketball teams in the US.

I am not ready to run Newman out of town yet. However, i really wish he would just shut his mouth. Guys like him feel important when someone want to hear what he has to say. He is too stupid to realize that the person asking is only asking to write a story about it and stir up problems.

I would prefer a team where every guy has the other guys back all the time. Regardless of our record. You just dont keep talking about this same Romo/ Simpson BS.

When something has zero chance of getting a positive reaction or result they why bother saying it? If you are talking about something that can cause any bad feelings at all yet there is zero to gain by saying it, then just shut up.

Romo is a good guy and a good team player. He is smart enough to not say something like some of these guys. I would love to hear his reaction to a reporter asking him about anything Newman related. He knows when to shut up.

In fact as much as I have always despised Randy Moss as a person, even he knows when to shut up. Doesnt Tom Brady have babies with 2 different supermodels or some crap like that? Doesnt he play golf? Doesnt he live a tabloid life? Yet Randy would never talk about anything like this about Brady. And dont give me the crap about "brady has a superbowl ring". Its not about that. Its about Moss figuring out when to shut up.

I'm done. BAd thread title I admit, but I still say he shouldn't have gone there. He's been in the league long enough to KNOW when he should just say NO COMMENT. That's all I'm saying: the rest is all window dressing.

My thoughts exactly. The perfect locker room does not exist. And if you really want the perfect locker room then you remove the personalities that make these guys competitive. This is NFL football, not high shool field hockey.

If the locker room was 53 perfect angels then the next thing we would hear is they don't have the competitive fire or "nastyness" to be competitive.

Just let it go . . . If you read the whole comment in context, it sounds like he was misquoted anyway.

i saw we trade him, i mean as long as we play a team with a good fast wr you can count on them blowing up because t-new can't cover and he's overrated and overpaid. I would trade him and let jenkins and scandrick start.

Newman only started running his trap this past season. I wonder why?

Newman may not have meant what people are interpreting him to have meant. But why even broach that subject and give the media the opportunity to spin it? Just keep the trap closed.
