Does OC matter?

Since McCarthy will be calling plays. I think since Schottenheimer didn't get fired he's the guy that will giving McCarthy info from skybox. Think I'm more interested in the qb coach and ol coaches.

We're hearing bout these coaches released or brought back, micky was talking bout this. The Cowboys had 29 coaches lol. Said one was an assistant to the assistant. Said only one that was suprising is edwards

I think so, that coach is closest or should be to the QB as any other. A good OL coach is also critical.

It'll be like when Parcells was here. He denied it but it was well known he called the plays for the offense. Haley and Sparano had the OC titles but didn't call the plays.

Mm is calling plays? Or is that an assumption

Maybe not so much on game day, but there’s a lot more to building a great team than making play calls on game day. McCarthy will likely have enough on his plate as the HC that he probably isn’t the guy working 1 on 1 with the players to implement a new offense. Also game day prep with watching film and knowing the opponent is extremely important and McCarthy can’t do it all. Which is why I won’t be surprised if we end up hiring 1 of 2 candidates that have been McCarthy’s OC before and know his system- Tom Clements or Edgar Bennet. Possibly both

I agree, but I doubt a coach will come in knowing he's not calling plays, but rather implementing mccarthys gameplan during the week since he has other things going on during the week along with the gameplan. Which is where I think schottenheimer has value. Cause of familiarity with the team and coach.

Yes, it is very important.

While McCarthy will be heavily involved in implementing his playbook and coaching the finer points, the OC will be the one doing the heavy lifting. They will do the majority of the game prep and scheme to attack this week's opponent. McCarthy will have input in it as well, probably signoff more than anything. He will then call the plays during the game.

This is no different than Andy Reid does in KC, Doug Pedersen does in Jacksonville, and Mike McDaniel does in Miami.

It is the way it should always have been. It was the dumbest move in the world to hire an offensive mind, who won a super bowl with his offense and calling plays....to neuter him from having really any input in the offensive scheme. I wasn't a fan of hiring McCarthy in the first place, but if I did, I would absolutely let him bring his offense with him.

That was another mistake the Jones' have made. People don't talk about this at all.

I said this in another thread already, but just promoting Schottenheimer to OC seems like a waste. He’s already in the organization and as far as I know he’s not getting any interviews to leave. Unless McCarthy really wants him as the OC you could just give him a bigger role (passing game coordinator) and still bring in another coach that knows McCarthy’s system.

Clements is GB’s QB coach and Bennett is Vegas’s WR coach. Both would get a promotion and raise and both have already done the job of simply running McCarthy’s system. Also 2 guys that aren’t getting interviews for the many OC openings elsewhere.

It’s a parity league and coaching has never mattered more than it does today.

Especially offensive coaching.

Kinda like Bienemy in KC.

Nobody will hire that guy because they know Reid is the actual playcaller and Mahomes does the rest.

I’ve seen Andy Reid trot out some no talent QBs over the years and make them look like really good players.

yes, OC matters. See Mcvay taking Goff to the superbowl. See Hurts passing for 120 yards and is playing in the superbowl. see Shanahan, going on a winnign streak with Purdy, the 3rd string QB.

yes, OC and scheme matter.

MM calling plays means ( at least to me ) it's his playbook, his scheme, and his offense going forward.

Dak could use a new QB coach. I think that will help more than a new OC.

Calling plays is not nearly as important as installing the offense, making sure the position coaches understand the nuances and specific details for each player on each play, and dissecting the defense and creating a game plan. Moore improved as a play caller, but he still gave away too many possessions with head scratchers. I think his overall picture and attention to detail is his shortcoming.

Need a point guy to set the vision, organize and manage all the different compnents that go into an offence. The offense is much more synchronized and complex than any other part of the team. Except maybe Jerry's bar tab on the road.

Adam Shefter reported today on NFL Live that a decision on who is calling plays is yet to be decided. Think MM has a plan and may call plays but it depends on who the OC is....IMO its yet to decided...but glad for change either way

Still a huge part of putting together the offensive game plan, actually probably more important than who’s actually calling the plays!
