Brent wasn't very good before his jail time and has pretty much missed 2 years of football. I don't see how he can be viewed as anything more than a camp body who has a chance.....

He was better than most people believe before the accident. He was one of the guys that I studied a lot. He is not a dynamic player that will flash a lot of big plays, but he is very difficult to move even with double teams. Before the car wreck he would blow up a lot of single blocking by driving OLinemen directly back into the backfield which forced teams to double him. If the 1tech can draw the double then that is huge for the surrounding players. There were many times that Hayden was single blocked and the extra blocker would kick out and get a LB, yet Hayden did nothing against the single block.

Being the strongest guy on the team despite having spent the 2 previous years in jail is more than just a camp body.

I feel the same way. He can anchor as good as anyone in this draft.

He was a fringe NFL starter before going to jail. Hopefully, he has a chance, but I wouldn't count on him. From what I can tell, he played in 1 game last year.

What's interesting is last year they gave up 22 passing touchdowns, which ranks 6th in the league. However they also gave up 18 rushing touchdowns which ranks 31st in the league.

I believe its a fatal flaw in his thinking which will doom our defense. He values the 3-tech and RDE more but if the 1-tech doesn't take on double teams and push the pocket then it makes it that much harder on those guys.If Hayden plays this year than all the improvement on roster will not translate into significant improvement on the field and he will get fired.

I agree. He wasn't some blue blood college recruit...but he was teachable and had intangibles before his life derailed.

agree.......wasn't his emergence a reason some were starting to project Ratliff out to DE a few years ago, then Rat supposedly got injured.

He played well just last year. Can't imagine he won't be apart of the rotation.

He plays Hayden there 45+ snaps a game. I don't think he values the position at all.

As best as I can tell, Marinelli appears to prefer DTs that are able to play BOTH the run and pass capably. It's not everyone that qualifies in that regard, however. With that being the case, Hayden is seeing action as one who handles the run without a passrush being in his arsenal. I'm on the lookout for the day when someone capable of handling both responsibilities can be implemented. So far, that hasn't materialized. Perhaps a DT will be taken in the upcoming draft who is capable of providing those things. Let's hope so.

I'm satisfied with McClain and Brent at the 1-Tech.....unless there's a real stud available, why bring in the same type guys? And a real stud who stops the run AND gets to the QB would be drafted much higher.

If anything, we may need another 3-Tech to rotate with Crawford.
