Does this draft immediately make us closer to the eagles/commanders?

He's proven as much as Dak.

Both are losers.

You're just emotionally attached to one more than the other.
Really. He’s proven just as capable as a starting QB despite never being a starter, only seeing spot duty, very moderate stats …

I get not believing Dak is a prime time QB & not ideal to lead a team to a Super Bowl. Hell, I agree with that. But to claim Rush is a better option to win games throughout the season is nuts. To suggest he is better to match up against Hurts is nuts. To believe that only suggests you’ve let your beliefs take you to the point of being irrational

What you’ve outlined above is whether their plans will work out or not.
It has little to do with doing things the “right way”
Any plan may fail but if you keep doing things the “right way” you’ll probably succeed in the end.
Any team should be using free agency as a supplement to the draft, as there are only 7 rounds and even the best drafting teams will miss on players.
Quinn already has buy in from the team and is a proven HC who got a team to an SB.
They’ve also realised that building the best team around a QB on his rookie deal is the way to go. Hence the offseason trades.
Will they succeed, who knows but they’re going about it in the correct way.
Contrast that to what we did when Dak was on his rookie deal!

Dude…I couldn’t care less about this convo anymore. You’ve beaten it to death. We can agree to disagree. If you wanna say the commanders after 1 successful season are the gold standard have at it.

Quinn was always gonna have buy in from his team- he’s a players coach that’s what they do, they get buy in for 2-3 years and normally flame out.

You Cowboys fans are so weak that you're scared of a team that you've rag-tagged for nearly three decades

How could we ever compete with the commanders. You literally beat them and their hot-shot QB at their crib last year and made him look pathetic in the finale

ONE 12-5 SESON Makes you a juggernaut , I guess. In football there literally is never a repeat of previous success, but its guaranteed with the Commanders!!!!

Cowboys will reign supreme in the NFC East in 2025

BULLET!!
Early take on our draft is most of the guys we got are really good football players. The guys from rounds 1-3 will all either start or have big impact almost immediately. The Day 3 guys are ok on paper… BUT I can’t say that this draft has immediately put this team in a better position to compete with the eagles and commanders. I Just can’t.

Don’t get me wrong, I like the guys we drafted in rounds 1-3.
  • 1st rounder Tyler Booker is a plug and play beast at G, I wish they could’ve traded down a couple spots to pick up a 4th rounder, but still a solid pick. A high character guy who was a captain at Alabama.
  • 2nd round DE Donovan Ezeiruaku is a very talented pass rusher. EZ is also a high character guy who was also a team captain at Boston College.
  • 3rd round CB Shavon Revel is a first round talent recovering from a knee injury. Where have we heard that before? Hopefully he’s fully recovered by Sept.
No problem really with those guys as far as their talent. They should contribute immediately. But if we are all being honest without the blue tinted fan glasses, the Cowboys STILL have glaring weaknesses at WR, RB and DT, three positions they badly needed an influx of top shelf talent.

So on Day 3 we acquired:
  • 5th round RB Jaydon Blue and he’s fast but he’s also small and not more than 8-10 touches a game guy who has had fumble issues. Are we better at RB? Hmmm….
  • 5th round traded up to get Florida LB Shemar James. A talented kid if not a little small. Seems a lot like last year’s 3rd round pick Marist Liafau.
  • 6th round picked up T Ajani Cornelius from Oregon. Backup swing T was not on my bingo card as a pressing need.
  • 7th round got UCLA DT Jay Toia, a big aggressive DT. But does this late sleeper suddenly make Mazi Smith a bad memory?
Like all drafts we need to wait on grading the 2025 Cowboys draft for at least a year; probably more like two years. Starting immediately, fans and the media will issue grades now but we really won’t know until pads are on and the real bullets fly in the regular season.

But if I am answering the question, “Did this draft get us closer to the eagles and commanders?” I would have to say no at this point.
BULLET!!!!!
We're still a country mile away.

Overall team and competition this year? Yes, probably so because we should be better running the ball and stopping the run.

Closer to those teams on the OL and front seven on defense? Absolutely. We aren’t there yet, but how could anyone not like our OL and front seven on defense better this year.

Scared? Nah I hate the eagles.

But the question wasn’t are we scared of the eagles or how much do we love the Cowboys. The question is did this draft immediately make us closer to overtaking the eagles or commanders.

Either yes or no answers can be made without an ounce of being “scared”. I honestly liked the players we drafted a lot. My concern is we did not in my opinion, adequately improve our biggest weaknesses- WR, DT AND RB. We addressed RB in round 5 and DT in round 7. But not to the point of major upgrade. WR wasn’t addressed.

Again, it’s possible for multiple things to be true. True we had a good draft. True also we did not improve enough to overtake our biggest rivals. Had we been willing to spend some cash in FA, we would have closed the gap even more.

The only person I see scared is Stephen Jones. He’s scared to get serious about FA.

I was referring to the Commanders, this give up to them is ridiculous

Lets see them do it again before we give them big dog status

DT in round 7.

Plenty of 7th round DT contributors have been major factors on winning teams

Not sure if the wideout position is in as desperate need as the hype

Losing Rico to save a million and change was the wrong move. Rico with the rest of the lot would've been more than solid imo

I don't think so.

Can you name the major “7th round DT contributors” on championship teams? I can think of Leon Lett…Jay Ratliff was a 7th rounder that was good but not that long.

DTs drafted in round 7 that are big contributors are few and far between. Can it happen with a guy like Jay Taio? Sure it can. It’s just not very likely.

Maybe on the Pats, but that's about it. Both super bowl teams last year have a roster loaded w/ high DT picks. Because that's where the game is won and smart GMs know it.

7th rounders are generally camp fodder. The ones who become major contributors are a tiny minority.

Exactly. The eagles have two first round stud DTs. They have prioritized DT and it shows.

Is a decent rotational piece, which is what you might get from late rounders.

Hey, maybe that Toy guy is the next DJ Reader(6th round), I sure hope so. Rooting hard for him.

Guess you didn't watch him in the SB.. He averages about 30 snaps a game
