Does Wade = Dielman?

Dielman's teammates in San Diego don't believe he'll be back. One late-season report had Dielman commanding Steve Hutchinson-like money on the market. Any team in search of a mauling guard will be interested. (Fri. Feb 9, 2007)
He can look for a Steve Hutchinson contract all he wants, but he ain't getting it. Particularly with him hitting the market at the same time as Steinbach, who most view as just as good as or better than Dielman.

His 2006 one-year deal was about $1.5 million. He'll probably get a 5 year deal with about $10 million in guaranteed plus an average of about $4-5 million per year in base salaries -- totalling out to a $30-35 million contract. I think it's most likely it'll be on the low end, if not lower.

I don't think the Chargers are willing to pay that much, and it's questionable whether he's worth that much. I'd rather have Steinbach.

So are we all banking on Rivera not robbing Jerry Jones this year, and going else where? I sure hope so.

Dielman helped get center Nick Hardwick and left tackle Marcus McNeill to the Pro Bowl. Among the top guards in the game, Dielman becomes an unrestricted free agent at 9 p.m. PST on March 1. Talks between his agent and the Chargers have broken off, but both sides expressed optimism here this week.

“He always has been the top priority,” Smith said. “He knows it. His agent knows it. . . . I'd like to see it get done.”

I don't see that there's any chance whatsoever that Rivera comes back in a starting role (or with the current contract in place) after a 2nd back surgery.

Personally I think SD gets him resigned. Smith knows they lost both DC and OC and to start losing talent after years of losing I don't think they will let him go.

According to that article, they're under the cap by $10 million. That number would not include Dielman since he's not under contract for 2007. Any deal with Dielman will like count at least $3-4 million against th cap in 2007 (and that's on the low end). They need about $5 million for their draft class, and it looks like they may have 1-2 other free agents to lock up.

They have another young guard right behind Dielman who they may be confident in. Dielman was undrafted and was a full-time starter by his 2nd year, so they may just be thinking "rinse, wash, repeat."

I've seen a couple of sites like The Red Zone who have Vince Manuwai/Jacksonville listed as a free-agent . I haven't been able to verify if he is or not , but he'd certainly be worth a look . He's been very solid for the Jags .

He got re-signed a month or six weeks ago.

Am I the only one who would be midly surprised to see Jerry spend significant money for another guard three years in a row?

I'm betting that Dallas drafts a lineman a little earlier this year, and lets Procter have a chance too. I just can't hardly imagine Jerry wanting to keep spending his money on the same position.

Enough to sign the players wanted as usual. They will eventually be around 10M under the way I look at it.

Too bad some of the recent signings have been questionable at best. :bang2:

how do you go from 2.5 mil in the hole, to 10 mil freed up??

I dont see the Commanders letting Dockery go anywhere.

OL is pretty solid and has a few years together. The last thing they want to do is put more pressure on the left side of the ball. Samuels is good, but he cant play two positions.

He SUCKS and is way OVERRATED.....
