In order to trade back there has to be a dance partner. A player of exceptional value will have to fall for a team to call Jerry with a deal. With all the holes the Cowboys have I don't think that this is the draft to get cute, especially in the 1st round. There has to be value in a trade and if a player with a 1st round grade is available and you pass on him in order to draft a 2nd round graded player in the first round doesn't make sense. This draft just isn't deep enough at the top. But if the opportunity is there for a trade back in the 2nd round then the value is better.

Agreed. I wouldn't take any WR at #13 either, hence why I previously said to trade down.
Our owner and son is going to tell everyone what we are going to do concerning a trade down. It’s just frustrating that all you have to do is put a microphone in front his face he will spill the beans. Then Jerry and Stephen has this dumb grin on their faces like they got over on someone. Just stupid.

I would trade out of the first round and get multiple draft choices including a 1 for next season and the team’s second/ third selections this draft. I would target the Raiders, Patriots, and Tennessee. The 2026 draft is going to have some serious talent in it.

Dallas needs talent, not mediocre bodies. If a stud is there when the pick comes, draft him. If the draft falls in a bad way, then think about trading back. If Grant is indeed available and Dallas trades out, I will be livid!

It does matter where we pick. The higher the 1st round pick, the better deal we could get on a trade back.

This team's ownership and most fans fail to understand that simple concept.
Problem is the guy trading back thinks he’s always making the best deal. See the Lance trade.

Also see the Mingo trade. They traded for a guy using their draft rankings from prior years. Not updated to where he was now.

I don't see a big difference between the guys going #12 in this class and the guys going #25. But by the same turn, that makes it hard to use them as trade bait.

If say a guy like Will Campbell or Tyler Warren is the BPA at #12, I wouldn't mind trading out of that spot. But who's going to give you a decent haul for a guard or a tight end?

We lost our fourth round pick and have tons of holes. Need to trade back. Doesn’t matter who is there. Trade back 4-5 spots and get that 3rd or 4th rounder.
It isn't easy to just say trade back, there has to be a player the traded team wants. In a draft without blue chip prospects outside of 1-2, teams aren't going to give up additional picks for players with similar grades.

For a team that builds through the draft the Cowboys don't seem very concerned with actually preserving picks. If this team has a GM he'd have traded Parsons for a haul of picks instead of keeping a guy who is going to be largely wasted as we go through this rebuild. I don't expect this franchise to be competitive until Dak is gone.

If you think there's only 12 first round players, and you're drafting 12th, it doesn't make a lot of sense to trade back.
That's not how it works. Other teams will prioritize players so the 12th player on the Cowboys list may not get taken until the 17-18 pick. Chances are pretty good when the Cowboys are on the clock there will be multiple players they like. By trading down they can still get one and get an extra pick. Just like they did with Parsons (Golston) and Guyton (Beebe). Considering how many holes there are to fill, it's a pretty viable option.

you need to trade down about 5 spots to recoup that 4th then again to get maybe another 4th and a 7th so really you need to trade back 2x in 1st maybe in the 2nd too and make sure you fill all those holes with people that at some point can be starters if needed. not this oh this guy will make a great back up. also RB and LB are so DEAP this year you can get some serviceable players in UDFA.

Yes, I realize that, but trading back much at all does not guarantee you'll get one of those guys. The 12th player might get picked 15th if you trade down to 16th. Which means your trade down strategy is another dumb move like drafting a lazy DT in the 1st round.
