That's sad. He doesn't look too good. We had a Dalmation we had to sleep a few years ago. It's tough to lose them.

Glad to hear he's doing better. Hope things work out for him to kick it with you a little longer.

Thanks guys for the words of encouragement and advice. I must be a sap because I get teary-eyed every time he happily gulps water and eats and relieves himself normally.

Good luck. I've got both of my guys laying under my desk as I type this so I know it must be tough.

You're not a sap. You care about your friend. I feel for you and him.

Playing fetch with my Mikey right now...

Hang in there and make sure you have a good vet to advise you...

Their lives all come to an end too quickly, but out of all of my dogs, I wouldn't trade the joy that a single one of them gave me. They were all very loved and very well taken care of and it sounds like your guy is as well... and he knows that...

The important thing is to let him go when it is time...

I hope you have a lot more time with him...

Always a sad deal bro and i feel for ya. I love that kind of dog. Thinking about buying a Mastif myself, but of the Neapolitan persuasion. You guys have had some good years and no one can take that away!

That is what the vet told me. He also said Beagles had a history of that. I took him at his word.

And they will have seizures. My sister had a toy poodle when we were growing up, and it developed epilepsy. But it wasn't anything we had to put her down for. We found out in year 2 or so, and she lived for another 13 years afterwards.

He didn't sleep at all the entire day. He just looked around. Last night he slept and this morning he is almost like his old self again. I have cautious optimism but at this age, he could change back to the same way easily, I think.

Rowdy... sorry to hear about your dog's declining health. I know very well how hard that can be as my family just had to put down our beloved golden retriever of 13 years last week.

It was a similar situation where he couldn't really move much at all anymore, and had stopped eating. It was a difficult situation because he didn't look like he was in pain, but you could just tell that he was at the end.

We took him to the vet and after a series of (expensive) tests, we found out he had a large tumor on his spleen. We could have opted for surgery, but at his advanced age he probably wouldn't have made it through it and even then it wouldn't have likely solved his problems completely.

In the end, the decision became much easier because he couldn't even get to his feet anymore... not even to go to the bathroom. It was very tough, but we knew we were making the right decision. And when the time comes, hopefully it will be a clear decision for you as well.

I never thought I would get so emotional over a dog, but it was a very rough few days for me.

Anyway, I hope all goes well and that your friend is at peace when the time comes.

Rowdy, I feel for you that is one of the hardest things to do to put down a companion you have cared for over the years. I have had to do it as well and even when you know it is for the best it does not make it any easier. I stayed with my until the end I was not going to allow her to be put down around strangers so I stayed with her.

Man, you guys are hilarious. I wish I could have found the humor in it when she was alive...But I was too busy trying to help her feel comfortable while her face was slowly pealing off from the tumors.
