While Dolphins officials huddled Thursday to settle on the list of finalists for the vacant head-coaching position, the team is prepared to fend off any advances made against de facto defensive coordinator Dom Capers.
While Saban signed most of his assistants to multiyear deals - offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey is believed to have two years left on his contract - Capers, who was New York Giants coach Tom Coughlin's defensive coordinator with the Jacksonville Jaguars from 1999-2000, signed for just one season.

Capers' contract will expire soon - the date is believed to be Feb. 1 - but the Dolphins will have a two-week window of exclusivity to work on a possible extension. During that time, the Dolphins can refuse to make Capers, who has interviewed for the head-coaching position, available to other teams, and they are expected to do that.

CNNSI is reporting that the Giants fired their defensive coordinator today to make room for Dom Capers to take over if Miami doesn't give him the HC job. Capers has coached for coughlin before.

And Dallas is left out in the cold because of a lame duck coach.

Come on, and Couglin is not a lame duck coach with his 1 yr extension.

Please..........

I thought JJT wrote in his article that Capers already refused when Tuna Asked about his availability?

Capers refused because he wanted a chance at the head coach vacancy in Miami. However, if capers doesnt get the head coach position, then he may beccome available, but only after feb 1st. I am sure that capers would rather work in Dallas or the Giants.

Main reason for that is if the Giants falter and Coughlin fails or gets fired, capers would have a shot at head coaching job, same thing in callas,, he would get a chance in a year if parcells left. Remember now, parcells contacted capers reportdely a few days ago.

so to me, parcells is making and going to come back, he wants to get a good defensive coordinator in that knows the 3-4 defense, and can run it. I am not sure about al groh, but parcells knows him.

I see it like this, parcells knows he probably has one more year, this year, to go to the superbowl, and this is his last shot. So, he is trying to load up with a really good defensive coordinator. Now far as one of the ryan boys, i think that is a good move, but you have to have another excellent DT-NT, to take over for fergueson.

I think JJ should approach Capers with both guns blazing, a promise to be a leading candidate (though I don't give it to him) as HC and 1.5mill more reasons to come over next year.

The guy might not be head coaching material but is a defensive genius....regardless of 3-4 or 4-3...the guy can coach unlike the tool we had in here before.
