<H1>Dolphins drop Ayodele with Porter, Wilson
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on March 5, 2010 5:21 PM ET
We knew Miami was going to shed some big-name salaries Friday.

They were finally allowed to let go of Joey Porter. (The league won't overturn this one.) We learned earlier in the day that Gibril Wilson was toast.

Since everything cool comes in threes, the team will also release inside linebacker Akin Ayodele. The former Cowboy was blamed for some of Miami's struggles in run support.

Ayodele's departure helps clear the way for Karlos Dansby to potentially take his spot, although we heard he was on the outs no matter what happened with Dansby.

Former Cowboy who knows the system. Perhaps a little depth to a somewhat thin LB corps?

For

We have Brooking and James as starters.

Williams is going to make the team and hopefully can one day become a starter. And Carp is there for coverage situations if Williams isn't ready.

Not really a lot of room. Unless of course, we are looking to add another ILB who cannot cover. I think we have that covered with our 2 starters.

Good grief the desperation to just sign someone, anyone gets thick around here when FA starts.

:laugh1:

Ayodele would be a progress stopper as a backup here.

No he wouldn't.

Anyone think Carp would be a better option if he had to play ILB for 4-8 games?

Teams would run all over him. Williams is unproven so I think a veteran Ilb would be a smart move.

That is exactly what it is coupled with a player at that position that people don't like. Mix the two and you get greed for nothing.

Not one who plays like him. I do admit we are too thin behind the starters. God help us if James goes down.

We need to revisit that trade where everyone said Parcells and Ireland took Jerry to the cleaners. Akin is now gone and recent reports said Miami wanted to upgrade TE. Don't we now have Scandrick and Choice due to the manuvering Jerry did using that pick? I think JJ did okay and maybe knew what he was doing with that one!

Exactly right. They got Akin and Fasano, we used the 4th round pick we got in return and turned it into Choice and Scandrick. I remember after the 2008 season, after the Dolphins had gone 11-5 and were about to host the Ravens in the Wild Card round, a Dolphins exec - I think it was Ireland - was quoted in an article whose premise was that Dallas got the short end of that trade saying that they wish they could do more trades like this one. I wonder how they feel now?

I wanted Akin Ayodele to stay back before he left, but its like 3 years later...do any of these people that start these threads even look or think about our roster?

I don't see what's so unreasonable about asking about the guy as a potential backup. He was a decent player here, and it's not like we're exactly flush at ILB depth, Bobbie Carpenter anyone?
