With all respect to the Oklahoma Roy Williams, not the Texas Roy Williams, Donovan Wilson is closer to anything the Dallas Cowboys have had at safety since Darren Woodson.

Since the Cowboys’ dynasty days ended, no position has befuddled this franchise like safety. They have found successful starting quarterbacks at a better rate.

For nearly 20 years the Cowboys kept shopping in the Clearance rack and the Manager’s Special bins in hopes of finding a winner at safety, and the law of averages finally worked in their favor.

How soon we forget that Roy Williams was near elite for about his first 4-5 years. There was even one year when he was arguably the league’s Defensive MVP, but Bob Sanders of the Colts was given the award instead.

I hope Donovan Wilson reaches that level. Until then, let’s not act like Wilson is the best we’ve had since Woody.

Agreed. All people seem to remember was Roy's last seasons where he was a big liability, but he was absolutely ELITE in his prime. I still remember his pick-6 of McNabb like it was yesterday!

RW31 is perhaps the most overrated Cowboy ever, may be tied with a certain QB.

Roy was so insane, rules were shaped because of him. He was hard hitting, had a nose for the football and a legit leader. Sanders was great too, but prime Roy was the most insane thing

Or that Kearse was one of our best players last year as a safety. Kearse has missed some time because of injury, so I'm not sure that Wilson is even the best safety on this team this year.

I do think the hybrid safety/linebacker position Quinn uses gives the player in that position a lot of opportunities to shine.

No one could horse collar receivers/running backs like him, just jerked them immediately to the ground with one hand. Not saying that to slight him. His ability with the maneuver is what led to the rule change. When you grab receivers/backs by the collar and ride them down, it isn't as big a deal as when you can grab them by the collar and crumple them to the ground.

Williams prime must’ve been in his first three years because Brunell and Moss exposed him to oblivion in 2005. He was never the same after that. He wasn’t the same safety once Woodson retired.

Speaking of Kearse, anybody noticed how huge that guy is??? That's a big ole safety right there.

Wilson is no Roy Williams.
Maybe someday, but not now.
