With all respect to the Oklahoma Roy Williams, not the Texas Roy Williams, Donovan Wilson is closer to anything the Dallas Cowboys have had at safety since Darren Woodson.

Since the Cowboys’ dynasty days ended, no position has befuddled this franchise like safety. They have found successful starting quarterbacks at a better rate.

For nearly 20 years the Cowboys kept shopping in the Clearance rack and the Manager’s Special bins in hopes of finding a winner at safety, and the law of averages finally worked in their favor.

You cannot play like the old time safeties did. Not in the wuffified NFL of today where everyone whines and cries.
And those so called fans that get their panties in a bunch anytime a big hit is made.

this thread is another example of what I have heard called recentitis whee everyone today is much better then anyone in the past.
Football is football; great players are great players.
To say otherwise is to insult every past player in the history of the NFL.
sadly we have a lot of those types on this forum

RW31 is perhaps the most overrated Cowboy ever, may be tied with a certain QB.
Ya I agree him and #9 legend was certainly bigger than the actual product.

I did love the fact that he would lay some people out

that’s said I like Wilson

People are forgetting how Heath could level people.

It was different. He'd plant his heels back, tilt forward, get his shoulder pads under theirs, and they'd run into him and just crumple like they had crashed into a telephone pole.

GOAT!

If you could combine the best attributes of these players, then you might get close to the performance/talent level of Darren Woodson:
  • SS/FS Wilson
  • SS/LB Safety Kearse
  • Nickel CB Lewis
  • FS Hooker

those that say RW31 was better are right but also no way DW is like Woody, this is like the old dez comp they said one trick pony but for 3 years. Dez was elite and one of the best 88s to ever play.. RW 31 getting hate but the NFL ruined this kids career, took hitting out of football and well 31 couldn't adjust to not being aggressive hard hitting safety. I had to endure this dude ripping my longhorns apart with ridiculous athletic plays. he was an school throwback box safety and many in his same leage from the good old days wouldn't make it now..

I lie this pace skip over roy say he was overrated but real fans and coaches his peers would say otherwise

Agreed. All people seem to remember was Roy's last seasons where he was a big liability, but he was absolutely ELITE in his prime. I still remember his pick-6 of McNabb like it was yesterday!
I think when he was paired with Woody, he could be him. A freaking terminator. Essentially a linebacker. Woody always had his back so teams couldn’t try to get him in deep coverage. Which was his Achilles heal
