Donovan Wilson should start

He slightly underwhelmed me due to the hype on this board for preseason play previous seasons but DT shouldn't be on the field.

I thought that was the plan at this point but I guess it hasn't been confirmed. If they bench Thompson and start him next game....what exactly is the point of this?

Wilson is going to have some issues coverage but I know he will at least tackle.

Thompson is bad. Wilson proved he’s the better player leading the team in tackles when he replaced him. He wasn’t perfect but he wasn’t awful either.

Let’s hope they feel the same way.

What do Thompson only played 4 snaps on defense vs the Browns mean...

Clear that he will. Why even start a thread. Thompson got benched after the 1st drive. You don't just magically get your job back after that.

Wilson was also terrible lol

I agree that he should start, but it's not like he was good.

I hear you but the guy needs experience. If he is better (which looked obvious), he should start and then we will all see what he got.

That's ONE GAME. He took a few poor angles but he also made some good tackles. He's a tackler.

But I'm sure you will somehow tell me he's a good cover safety and can't tackle....please proceed.
I'm with you. Tackling technique can get better with reps.

If he is going to have coverage issues, speed isn't going to be able to be learned.

Based on the eye test, he seems to be a guy that plays faster than he times in straight speed.

It wouldn't surprise me if he seizes this opportunity, and it wouldnt at all shock me if he plays like the 6th rounder he was.

Either way the team needs to find out.

He showed more effort than some of our high priced veteran guys.

Thompson is a career STs player. It is concerning the coaches didn't know that.

That is what is baffling to me. Fundamentally Thompson doesn't have the athleticism or speed to make up for lack of instincts. Usually a player can survive when deficient in one or the other but not both. To his credit, he gives maximum effort and tries to be physical which is why he's solid on STs. But not at Safety.

He got burned on the OBJ Landry pass and they pulled him. Nolan said that they didn’t plan to leave Wilson in there but he did well so they left him. That doesn’t mean he starts this week.

I agree. I can justify him playing and getting burnt. I can't Darian Thompson. You don't know what a guy has until he plays. It happened with Dak.....happening with Schultz now.........just play them and see.
