Donovan Wilson?

What are everyone’s thoughts on Wilson going forward?
seems like he makes a lot of plays but I’ll admit I haven’t seen enough non-highlight film to see if how he’s doing on regular plays as far as messing up coverages and etc.
Same as always.

He is fine, as long as the other safety is better.

So far, no deal. Not close either.

Wilson is ok. Decent at best. We are so starved for safety competence, we look at a guy who makes a few plays as bedrock player. Wilson might be a decent starter. But man we need to draft a S.

starved? It’s only been 1 season since we were fielding the goat back there.

Let’s sign him to a 100 million dollar contract

YES. We gotta project his development and pay for it now. Nothing more embarrassing to jerrah than someone complaining on social media about being underpaid.

He looks like the best player in the secondary, except maybe Diggs. Not sure what that says about the rest, but look forward to seeing how he develops.

Starting strong safety for the next several years.

Time to pair him up with a legit free safety
Yes. Give him a competent Free Safety and watch him make plays. Wilson will make some mistakes due to aggression, but he'll make way more positive plays.

If you continue to ignore the position and put journeymen (Darian Thompson), late-round nothings (Xavier Woods, Kavon Frazier), or UDFA's with glaring deficiencies (Jeff Heath), then expect teams to be able to beat us deep when they need to.

Yes, I realize Donovan Wilson was a 6th round pick as well, but unlike Woods and Frazier, Wilson makes tangible plays. He was utilized as Nickel at A&M with future Day 2 draft picks, Armani Watts and Justin Evans, manning the Safety spots. As a Nickel, he had 63 tackles, 8.5 TFLs, 2 Sacks, 1 QB Hurry, 3 FF , 2 FR, 5 INT, and 3 PBU's. If you read my draft write-up's at the time, I was comparing him to the Honey Badger. He got hurt the next year and then bounced back in 2018 with a very good deason. NFL teams slept on him, no way he should have been a 6th rounder.

No more of this training camp or special teams fables. Keep adding guys who make actual plays in games.

My dream is an aggressive free agent signing like Justin Simmons or Marcus Maye, a trade for Tavarius Moore or Armani Watts, or invest a draft pick in TCU's Trevon Moehrig.

I would like one of the TCU safeties....Moehrig in particular. That would be awesome. He is the best FS in college and projected to go around the 2nd round where Dallas picks. Unfortunately, they devalue that position and try failed CB instead.

Wilson was the defensive mvp. Of course he should be a shoe in starter next year.

He’s always around the ball and hits hard. Gets interceptions, recovers fumbles, forces fumbles, gets QB sacks. His rookie preseason games last year and the games he’s started this year I notice him on the field every game. The Cowboys found themselves a VERY GOOD strong safety in the 6th round. You can build a secondary around Diggs and Wilson. Just need some additional pieces around them.

He's accounted for five takeaways (two INTs, three forced fumbles; he recovered two and I believe Lawrence or Jaylon Smith recovered the other), so there's that.

Church 2.0, and that's not a bad thing. He's still got room to grow.

More athletic Church. Not a guy you want playing center field or in man a lot, but he fits the box safety role.
Seems to play the run well and has a good for for blitzing, too.
Rather he be the robin to a really good free safety, but he is a piece that helps the defense.
