Don't dismiss Deuce Vaughn for 2025 so easily

With a new set of coaches (including his old college O-line coach), plus an expected younger and better offensive line, this should help RB Deuce Vaughn better use his skillset to prove he deserves to be on the Dallas Cowboys team (whether the 53 player roster or practice squad)...or make it harder to cut him.

The least Deuce deserves if he fails to make the 53 player roster is to be brought back on to the Practice Squad and be one of the 4 players protected from being stolen. He is young, has a very good skillset and should be kept in case one of the running backs who makes the 53 player roster actually gets injured.

What say you?

I already dismissed him in 2023

Yes, Deuce definitely has a chance to make the team with Coach Riley now here in Dallas.

It's not any website member's responsibility to "dismiss" a player, regardless of his performance. I see the word dismiss as causing a player to be disallowed to serve his function on the team. That is the responsibility of the executive(s) enabled with the responsibility of serving that purpose.

Of course, criticizing any player is something that website members do as a matter of their personal inclination. It usually occurs freely, as a simple matter of their personal opinion being expressed. Of course, it helps greatly if it is done in a fair and considerate manner.

McCarthy criminally underused Vaughn. It's hard to prove yourself when you average less than 3 carries per game.
“criminally”? What if the this next coaching staff simply cuts him outright? What will they be guilty of?

I'm not going to do all these discussions like I did this time last year, making the case that Deuce had not had any legit opportunity yet to show what he could do in the regular season. And I think we learned last season that a Mike McCarthy-led offense just simply wasn't ever going to do more than pay lip service to giving him opportunity. I can only say that I am hopeful that a Schotty-led offense will give him legit opportunity, even as I also have to be practical and acknowledge that there are too many RBs on the roster with plausible chance to make the team for that to happen right now. Barring a training camp injury, if not two, Deuce's best path at this point is likely on some other roster.

Well said!

The purpose of my post was to point out that if you're going to keep a player on the team, you should at least give them a fair shot at playing. I don't feel that McCarthy did this with Vaughn. If the new coach/staff cuts him, they'll be guilty of nothing.

PS. Using "criminally" as a figure of speech typically involves exaggerating or emphasizing a transgression, often humorously or sarcastically. The word "criminally" in this context isn't referring to a serious crime, but rather to a minor infraction that is simply being exaggerated. I'm guessing you already knew that and still decided to go all ad hominem.

I say the kid is a cool small dude, but he is a waste of space. You, me and the rest of the world know why he is on the team and you can thank his daddy for that.

We've had 2 years in a row of people swearing up and down he won't make the roster, only for him to make the roster.

I think he makes the team until I see he's been cut.

The only way they keep the Smurf is because of his Daddy.

He’s been underutilized because he doesn’t utilize his time when he’s on the field.

I was a big fan of Deuce, but he has been a completely useless pick by daddy jerry..

Yes, but when you weigh 176lbs you need to be in like the 99th percentile. You can't be just "faster than the majority of backs" when these guys are all 200lbs plus. I'm certainly not using an elite back like Saquon as the measuring stick for making an NFL roster of course, but just as an exaggerated example Saquon ran a 4.40 and weighed 233lbs.

Forget Blue, look at the RBs most mocked to us this year:
Hampton: 4.46; 221lbs
Judkins: 4.48; 221lbs
Henderson: 4.43; 202lbs
Jeanty - I don't think he ran the 40
You keep looking at 40s only. They don't play on a track. Try watching them play.

New year, new coaching staff, new RB group. Everyone is new except Deuce and Luepke. They released Davis, as he was the only other hold over. All of equal value right now? Probably not, but each will be given that opportunity to prove themselves.

Though Leupke is a FB, but I can see Mafah competing for his spot. If one says Deuce was not used right, then the same can be said for Luepke. If he stays on as the FB, Mafah could go to the PS, depending on what the other RB's show.
If close Mafah may take over for Luepke, as contract size and if Leupke is in the last year of his contract. Or Mafah to PS until he is ready to take over. No he will not get poached form the PS.

Right now to me, all the RB's spots are open to competition. Not for the #1 RB, but just all roster spots. Blue will make the team, as they do like their draft picks.
Williams and Sanders and Blue all will compete for #1 RB as of now. Yes, Sanders at this point.
I think one of Sanders or Williams could be gone though. Depends on FO favorites though. Opening up a spot for Deuce. However I can see the RB group as Blue, Williams, Sanders, Mafah / Leupke.

I really do not see a role for Deuce and have him last on my depth chart. Can Sanders do what they hope Deuce can do, or at least what the fans hope he can do. I know some on here like him, so let TC sort this out.
TC will be pretty interesting with this position.
