Don't dismiss Deuce Vaughn for 2025 so easily

With a new set of coaches (including his old college O-line coach), plus an expected younger and better offensive line, this should help RB Deuce Vaughn better use his skillset to prove he deserves to be on the Dallas Cowboys team (whether the 53 player roster or practice squad)...or make it harder to cut him.

The least Deuce deserves if he fails to make the 53 player roster is to be brought back on to the Practice Squad and be one of the 4 players protected from being stolen. He is young, has a very good skillset and should be kept in case one of the running backs who makes the 53 player roster actually gets injured.

What say you?

is he as fast as blue? no. is he as big as Mafa? no. is he as experienced as Sanders? no. is he as versatile as Williams? no

so what does he bring to the table?

he is a gadget that doesn't work so well. I dismissed him last year. don't let emotional attachment to certain players cloud your judgement.

When it comes to dismissing Deuce, I'll meet you halfway,

I'll dis him, but I'm not missing him.

I could almost feel the same way about Mazi as well. If this 3rd set of coaches (DCs) can't get him more effective he's about as useful to the team as Deuce is.

There's alot of 1st round and 6th rounders that just don't cut it

I'm not going to do all these discussions like I did this time last year, making the case that Deuce had not had any legit opportunity yet to show what he could do in the regular season. And I think we learned last season that a Mike McCarthy-led offense just simply wasn't ever going to do more than pay lip service to giving him opportunity. I can only say that I am hopeful that a Schotty-led offense will give him legit opportunity, even as I also have to be practical and acknowledge that there are too many RBs on the roster with plausible chance to make the team for that to happen right now. Barring a training camp injury, if not two, Deuce's best path at this point is likely on some other roster.
Probably over at the Eagles with Sproles. I don't know though. I'd be down with a lineup of Mafah, Blue, Vaughn..

In that case, I think it forces you to design plays for the players, and you may want to keep 4 backs who have ST value.

It would be nice if everyone was given equal opportunity in that rb room. I'm not saying it won't be but let everyone compete. The thing about Deuce, and i like Deuce, is you would think he would get alot of reps with his Dad and all....
He has gotten a lot of reps, because of his dad and all. But if you think about it, dude earned it in college.

Running back is usually a position you don't have to develop, usually . . . which means sometimes. Sometimes backs like Vaughn take time to develop. I think it took Sproles 6 years or something.

I'm not gonna lie, though. I like Deuce. But don't just hand him a roster spot like last year. If you keep him, use him.

At the end of the day, it might be time to drop the Deuce.

I suspect IR for him, something like that. Or just practice squad.

I would be down with Blue, Mafah, Luepke and Deuce. Let Deuce do kickoff returns while Turpin does punt returns (or visa - versa) if Schottenheimer decides to use Turpin more on offense. Luepke would definitely play special teams at all times since he seldomly would be used at fullback. Blue and Mafah would be strictly used on offense; no special teams since they would be our workhorse running backs. Sanders or Williams would be moved to practice squad. Their better days as running backs are behind them. Time for the younger running backs to perform.

Try watching them play.
I find that kind of funny, because the people who are saying he won't make the team are saying exactly that about Deuce's past 2 years. It's not like watching Deuce play has been a highlight reel. Heck, his career-long run is exactly 1 yard longer than Zeke's longest was last year.

I am on the fence. I don't think he is big enough for this level, and goes down too easily, but I also do believe he hasn't been given a real shot (though I believe there may be a reason for that).

That being said, if Blue does everything better than Deuce, as many say, and Blue is only going to get 10-15 touches per game, are you going to take some of those and give them to Deuce instead? Why would you if Blue can do it better? To me, if Deuce makes the team, the only way he is active is if Blue isn't.
