Don't dismiss Deuce Vaughn for 2025 so easily

The quickness isn't elite enough to offset how easily he goes down with arm tackles. There are plenty of guys just as quick as him that are 20 lbs heavier and he ran a 4.56 40, which is incredibly slow for a guy who weighs 176lbs. I was so rooting for the kid year 1, but he isn't running down on kickoffs or punts so all he would be doing would be taking up a precious roster spot. PS, sure, who cares...
I think that's where the comparisons to Darren Sproles fall short. Sproles was quick and fast, which helped him make up for his lack of size. Vaughn is quick, but he's not fast. He doesn't see a hole and blaze through it before it can close. He'll duck and dodge, but without that explosive element, he can't get too far before he's knocked down.

With a new set of coaches (including his old college O-line coach), plus an expected younger and better offensive line, this should help RB Deuce Vaughn better use his skillset to prove he deserves to be on the Dallas Cowboys team (whether the 53 player roster or practice squad)...or make it harder to cut him.

The least Deuce deserves if he fails to make the 53 player roster is to be brought back on to the Practice Squad and be one of the 4 players protected from being stolen. He is young, has a very good skillset and should be kept in case one of the running backs who makes the 53 player roster actually gets injured.

What say you?

He had multiple runs of over 21 mph in college. There isn't a lot of RBs that do that. Blue can hit 22 mph.

Honestly, I have no idea how this is going to play out. If I HAD to guess right now, I'd say:

Williams
Blue
Deuce
Luepke (FB)

PS
Sanders
Mafa

But I could also see Sanders and Deuce swapping places.

I just don't see the burst. He has good elusiveness, but I don't see that gear that allows him to fire through gaps and get into the secondary. Of course, we don't have a large sample size on the NFL level.

The thought of Deuce taking a valuable roster spot in 2025 is a downer.
He has had his chance, old fellow.

The NFC trembles at that quartet of talent.

It is pretty remarkable how much better he looks when he's not swallowed up immediately 3 yards behind the line.

The growling is building.

By mid June...we'll have seen at least a few SuperBowl "hot take threads"

By July, we'll be back to being a Top 7 to 10 team, with a Top 10 QB

By the time the PreSeason rolls around, and Duece Vaughn runs for 100 yds in a preseason game against the Browns or Jaguars 3rd stringers, it will be full on growling-mode.

It's the predictability of it all that's mind numbing

Was Jerry Rice fast? He supposedly ran a 4.65 or 4.7 yet he could run away from people. 40s don't always translate to a football field with pads on.
What does Jerry Rice have to do with this? What he could do doesn't necessarily have anything to what Vaughn can do. As I've said, I see the shiftiness and quickness with him, but I don't see that blazing speed to get through the hole and past the first level of defense.

As I've written elsewhere, a lot of these backs succeed on the college level because blocking gives them big holes to run through. They fail on the NFL level because they don't have the skills to consistently get through the smaller holes before they collapse.

Now again, we haven't seen that much of Vaughn so maybe it's there. I just haven't seen much of an initial burst.
