Don't expect FO to give Dak much help. Not yet at least

I know it may sound crazy but don't look for the FO to spend a ton of resources for specifically for Dak's improvement. Why? Pretty simple, they're not sold on him and to be honest, they shouldn't coz he was only a 4th round pick. Simply put, you don't build your team around a 4th round pick until he's clearly proven the system ( 32 teams of scouts, GM, personnel ) dropped the ball on evaluating his skills, meaning he's a franchise QB. As we all know franchise QB can mean a lot of things, depending who you ask, but to me, it's about resources invested. Resources meaning either valuable draft picks or large contract or both. Other words, if you spend top 5-10 draft pick on a QB or give you vet QB a $50m plus contract, he's a franchise QB via investment. Whether or not he proves worthy of the title is a different story. Last year Dak played like a franchise QB. I don't care who you are, for a 4th round rookie, you had to be impressed. Naturally, fans were saying after last year, we have our franchise QB. Even Stephen was saying in redraft he would Dak first overall. The real question is the FO prepared to treat him like a franchise QB?







Troy Aikman was a first overall pick but it took 3-4 years before the Cowboys became his team. Heck, Jimmy even drafted his former college QB coz he wasn't immediately sold on Troy, but as the first overall pick, there was no question the Cowboys were going to aggressively in invest other resources to make sure Troy had everything needed to succeed ( right coaches, players, personnel ). Heck Troy even got chose his own TE with a first round pick ( he was a bust but it did happen).

Tony Romo, of course, was a free agent that sit for 3 years (2003 -2006 ). He and Troy's route to the franchise title were completely different but similar in they both broke several Cowboys records. Never the less, Romo didn't become the team's so-called franchise until signed the record $67M contract 2007. Now that he's a "franchise" QB, Cowboys signed TO and when didn't work out, traded for Roy Williams. It's they were consistently trying to build around Tony but missing the target. Six years later (2013) his deal is reneg to $108M and we start hearing making the offense "Romo friendly".

This brings me back to Dak and my point. As a 4th rounder, nothing he could have done last year or this year to earn the right be called a franchise QB.....too soon. Not until he can show he can consistently carry this team with or without all the pieces in place. The KO WILL NOT BUILD AROUND A 4TH ROUND PICK UNTIL HE'S EARN THE TITLE OF FRANCHISE QB. To be honest, that's the way it should be. Before giving him a $100M+ contract, you gotta know he has enough stand-alone talent/skills to carry this team to a certain level ( not necessarily to Super Bowl) regardless whose around him.

Personally, I've always believed character, leadership and work ethics can overcome any obstacles. It is I honestly believe he prove worthy of leading this team for next 10 years or so.

I like what you said here and i agree... i still think we have to draft a QB in this years draft to back up or give competition, i dont care if its 1st or 7th round who ever it is better be able to come in and compete for starter position incase Dak Falters which im hoping against we either have New QB or Trade bait....

Bottom line, coz he was 4th round pick, he has to earn franchise title before any major resources invested.......

Wrong.

The Joneses have already touted him as the guy. They will do anything to prove themselves right.

 
The help he needs is on the other side of the ball...which I'm sure is the priority.
But if there's an offensive stud that they have rated way above any defensive player they like when their on the clock, then it's either take that player or trade down some.

As for "helping Dak" on offense. There maybe has never been another rookie in history that had the offensive table set like he did last year.
Silver spoon stuff. Pro Bowlers (and even All Pros) all over the place.
That changes some if Tyron will never be Tyron again. But we don't know that yet.
Martin, Frederick, Elliott, Smith....those are elite pro bowlers. The receiving core (WRs and TEs) is not at that level, but still better than many out there.

I want elite Pro Bowlers on the other side of the ball now

Why do people still talk about the OL? The OL was abusing people before Elliot started suspending people. The OL is fine. They got injuries right now, and they lost a once in a generation RB. Remember they lost 2 of 5 starters on the OL so they had to settle in. They seemed to get a handle on that the 3 games before he started serving the suspension. Dallas was avgn close to 200 yrds rushing a game. and Dak went 51 of 83 for 623 yrds and 5 tds no int rating 107.6 and rushed for 2 more tds. so he was throwing for 200 yrds a game and scored 2 tds a game and didnt turn it over. To go with a rushing attack of 200 yrds a game.

I wonder if people actually look up facts before posting their opinion thats dominating their brain.

I see your point, but if they invested in resources for Dak say a speedy receiver wouldn't another QB also benefit?
 
Dak deserves the opportunity to improve and keep his job. But I would like to see us either draft a qb No. 1 or take a shot on Manziel or both.
 
I don’t really understand the point of your post. And why they “wouldn’t get him help”.

The front office should be getting the best team possible, offense, defense and special teams. Whether they believe in Dak long term or not.

Every team, should always be trying to upgrade their roster from top to bottom, at all times. It’s the only way to win a championship.

Simple....teams build around a franchise QBs. No QB outside 1st round will get that kind of KO respect until he proves worthy to 2nd contract. Now if he was a top ten pick, that's different. He's carrying the title out the gate via valuable draft pick. Bottom line, no franchise is going to build their team around a 4th round pick until he's proven worthy of long-term investment. Only to do that is play at high level for min 2-3 three years.
 
you guys are a crack up. The Jones are ok with Dak because its to early to bail first off. Second off, its been a rough season and expectations have been high because everyone bought into this crap. Dallas wasnt going to make some noise despite what people believed it. we revamped a whole defense and threw away a 13-3 team. ok fine. than we realize after getting Coach of the year, oh wait maybe not everyone knows what they are talking about and all of a sudden, Garrett cant coach, shocking again to the people who bought the the groceries that were on sale.

Garrett isnt good, Linehan isnt that good, and we dont know the depth of Jerrys involvement who has sucked since Jimmy left.

Sea of mediocrity and most people bought into it. I do not blame Dak for the fools who allowed the crap to coach the team. Wipe out Garrett and company and let the new regime do what they need to do. Let them drop who they dont want and let them install what they want to do and let him pick his own coordinators and scouting department. THan we will see if we have talent or not.

What do you mean “build around”?

No matter who the QB is. They should be trying to add better offensive lineman, better receivers, and building a better defense.
