Don't expect FO to give Dak much help. Not yet at least

I know it may sound crazy but don't look for the FO to spend a ton of resources for specifically for Dak's improvement. Why? Pretty simple, they're not sold on him and to be honest, they shouldn't coz he was only a 4th round pick. Simply put, you don't build your team around a 4th round pick until he's clearly proven the system ( 32 teams of scouts, GM, personnel ) dropped the ball on evaluating his skills, meaning he's a franchise QB. As we all know franchise QB can mean a lot of things, depending who you ask, but to me, it's about resources invested. Resources meaning either valuable draft picks or large contract or both. Other words, if you spend top 5-10 draft pick on a QB or give you vet QB a $50m plus contract, he's a franchise QB via investment. Whether or not he proves worthy of the title is a different story. Last year Dak played like a franchise QB. I don't care who you are, for a 4th round rookie, you had to be impressed. Naturally, fans were saying after last year, we have our franchise QB. Even Stephen was saying in redraft he would Dak first overall. The real question is the FO prepared to treat him like a franchise QB?

Troy Aikman was a first overall pick but it took 3-4 years before the Cowboys became his team. Heck, Jimmy even drafted his former college QB coz he wasn't immediately sold on Troy, but as the first overall pick, there was no question the Cowboys were going to aggressively in invest other resources to make sure Troy had everything needed to succeed ( right coaches, players, personnel ). Heck Troy even got chose his own TE with a first round pick ( he was a bust but it did happen).

Tony Romo, of course, was a free agent that sit for 3 years (2003 -2006 ). He and Troy's route to the franchise title were completely different but similar in they both broke several Cowboys records. Never the less, Romo didn't become the team's so-called franchise until signed the record $67M contract 2007. Now that he's a "franchise" QB, Cowboys signed TO and when didn't work out, traded for Roy Williams. It's they were consistently trying to build around Tony but missing the target. Six years later (2013) his deal is reneg to $108M and we start hearing making the offense "Romo friendly".

This brings me back to Dak and my point. As a 4th rounder, nothing he could have done last year or this year to earn the right be called a franchise QB.....too soon. Not until he can show he can consistently carry this team with or without all the pieces in place. The KO WILL NOT BUILD AROUND A 4TH ROUND PICK UNTIL HE'S EARN THE TITLE OF FRANCHISE QB. To be honest, that's the way it should be. Before giving him a $100M+ contract, you gotta know he has enough stand-alone talent/skills to carry this team to a certain level ( not necessarily to Super Bowl) regardless whose around him.

Personally, I've always believed character, leadership and work ethics can overcome any obstacles. It is I honestly believe he prove worthy of leading this team for next 10 years or so.

You said "franchise" 11 times.

Why do people still talk about the OL? The OL was abusing people before Elliot started suspending people. The OL is fine. They got injuries right now, and they lost a once in a generation RB. Remember they lost 2 of 5 starters on the OL so they had to settle in. They seemed to get a handle on that the 3 games before he started serving the suspension. Dallas was avgn close to 200 yrds rushing a game. and Dak went 51 of 83 for 623 yrds and 5 tds no int rating 107.6 and rushed for 2 more tds. so he was throwing for 200 yrds a game and scored 2 tds a game and didnt turn it over. To go with a rushing attack of 200 yrds a game.

I wonder if people actually look up facts before posting their opinion thats dominating their brain.

No, the OL is not fine. The OL is playing its worst football in a very long time. It was allowing boneheaded sacks before Elliot got suspended. The 2014 or 2016 OL would have given us a reliable running game with Elliot suspended and Alfred Morris running. It wouldn't have been on the same level, but it would have been effective. Here are the only stats we need:
sack, sack, sack, sack, sack, sack, sack
By a decent, but not great player in Atlanta's Claiborne. Are you claiming that the loss of Leary didn't hurt? Because if you are, you're the one who's totally out of touch. We need to draft a lineman. We don't need to draft an entire line. We need to draft ONE offensive lineman. And we need that line to be well coached. The loss of Callahan hurt us.

Now it's your time to post something out of touch and condescending again. Go ahead, but it won't convince anyone that we don't need improvements to the O-line. Because we do need improvement there. This line is not playing as well as it did in '14 and in '16, and there's no stat you can use that will hide that fact. Last year the line also had injuries, but it did a lot better.

He has all the tools he needs to be successful, now he just needs to stop being the worst QB in the league (over the last 3 weeks).

Did you even watch any games before Elliot was suspended? Because Dallas allowed the fewest sacks in the NFL(8) before that first game without Elliot.

Did you see Chaz Green play? OL depth is an issue. You can't bet on starting OL not getting injured. Especially with Tyron's back issues.

If after the season the Cowboys front office still views Dak as franchise QB then run for the hills because they don't know what they are seeing. Its more likely he is tier 2 QB who will need dominant defense and dominate running game. It can be done but have Cowboys shown any evidence in past 10 years of building dominant defense? At a min., they would need two shut-down CB an elite DE & young Sean Lee type LB. I see Lawrence as only piece. We get to see Cheeto as starting CB for first time so lets hope that goes really well.

What?

I understand not anointing a player too fast, but where he was drafted goes out the window once he plays.

You think the Cowboys thought less of Romo since he was UDFA? Patriots and 6th rounder Brady? Seattle and Wilson?

Wrong.

The Joneses have already touted him as the guy. They will do anything to prove themselves right.

You're absolutely correct and the comment about proving themselves right summarizes both the absolute best and worst about the Joneses. You don't have to look any further than Garrett to prove that point.

My apologies for injecting JG into this thread - in my defense, I am reminded of the quote, "all roads lead to Rome" signifying that the ancient city if Rome was at the center of everything.

So....in your theory, they won't build a championship team until Dak proves he's worthy of it? And they won't do that because he's a 4th Rd pick? Franchises are in the championship building business. At times, they start over. No need to start over now. They have a QB that's growing. They have a stout RB. They have a stout OL. We may need to get a speedy route running WR. And get the D in place and settled but they are building now.

Remember something Parcell said after Romo's first couple games, where he looked like an all-pro. Let's not put him in Canton yet, I wanna see how he plays with everything going against. How about last drive to win the game after throwing a couple picks......his teammates, coaches and fans looking for him to pull it off. Again this is what Dak

Let me ask you this ........IF you had to give Dak a new contract today considering last year, this year and his draft position, how much would you offer?

Now take same scenarios but replace Dak with Wentz but remember he has 2 first rounds, 1 2nd round, and two players ALREADY invested.

If you watch the Chargers game, the two picks Dak threw, he had a totally clean pocket and plenty of time. He just telegraphed his throw, staring at the target. That's not a good sign.

Okay, I admit, you're 100 percent right. This line is playing every bit as well as it did last year and in '14. We're dominating time of possession and not allowing any sacks. We're the best line in the history of football. We don't need to make any adjustments at all in the offseason. Draft a lineman? Pffft!! That's crazy talk. This line needs no help at all. Someone gets hurt? Just plug Chaz Green in there. He'll do great. Glad we cleared that up. Thanks. This line is just as good as in 2016. I'm sure glad there's nothing to worry about. Thanx a ton for making it all clear.

He didn't telegraph passes last year. He went through his progessions and spreaded the ball around really well. Could the endorsements be a distraction? I really don't think it matters, but the results make me wonder.

Now they are pretending like they aren't sold on him or what, trying to make us forget they benched Romo for him? People are trying to re-write the narrative. We were in WIN NOW mode when we drafted Zeke, so any argument that we weren't expecting to win after 13-3 and were in rebuild is a farce. We just thought Dak was the guy that could get us there, along with the offense. We were expecting the run to keep the defense off the field as much too.

We've had a 13 and 3 season with Dak. If they don't give him any help, he needs to walk when his contract is up.

And Zeke starting and averaging 5 YPC on first down, along with Sean Lee playing a full season on defense...

RG3 had an almost equivalent first year, but he didn't have Zeke back there...

That's unrealistic. Because you don't offer drafted QBs contracts after one or two seasons. Last year people would have gave Dak the bank. He's not played that well the last 3 GAMES...not seasons....GAMES. If you did that with every player...you wouldn't have a team. You don't judge a player in one season. They all have a bad season. Romo led the league in INTs. Some seasons, Romo was a turnover machine. Do you offer him a contract? Dak is only in his 2nd year. Some of you want to compare him to Wentz. If you compare him to Wentz last year, it wouldn't be a contest. He won the NFC Rookie of the Year! He hasn't completed his 2nd year. Look at Aikman's first 4 years.....definitely not worthy of a big contract. And I liked Romo better than Aikman, though Aikman has 3 Superbowls. Let Dak finish the process. He's still young. He's still learning. He'll be fine. And all QB's....ALL...need a team around them. I have yet to see ONE QB win a Superbowl by himself.
