But if we could come away from free-agency with long-term deals for Romo and Spencer, Ernie Simms, Justin Durant, Eric Winston, and Michael Huff, then I'd say we would have quietly addressed several key positions in astute-but-understated ways.

No guarantee we'll get all if that done, but I'm hopeful the front-office makes it all come true. I'd be okay without Winston, if we think the world of Parnell. But the rest could be really vital moves. Durant is more than just a guy, and Huff could be a home-run.

The contracts of Romo and Spencer are the first dominoes that need to fall. But despite the cap issues and how quiet it's been, I think we could actually be amidst a very productive off-season and find ourselves well positioned for the draft --which is heavy on linemen for both the O and D.

Don't look now, but I think we may be making the right moves...

Still we need to back it up with a A+ draft. No drafting injured players, no 4th round busts. They need to hit Rounds 1-4 this year, period.

Agreed. Too many misses on o-linemen for the last decade. Oh, and running backs and linebackers, and linemen. We gotta nail it now...

I'd also love us to find a back that would make Demarco a backup. I like the guy, but hasn't been able to stay healthy at any point in his football career. We need a homerun from the backfield; and of course, some competent figures blocking for them...

This is the biggest off-season for shaping the future of this team we've had in some time.

Agreed. No trading multiple picks for a single player.

No "He would have been a 1st round pick if he didn't suffer a career ending injury" picks in the 2nd round.

Don't try and get cute, and try to unearth the hidden gem.

Find players who can play !!!

I think Huff wants too much money. He probably didn't like the offer the Boys were giving him which is probably why he will still visit the Ravens. Durant meanwhile thought his offer was fair and agreed to a handshake deal for now. Winston has been cut for 2 years now and his contract was not that cap killing in KC. Maybe he has some health issues that no one is aware of or maybe like Huff he thinks he is worth more than he is. I would sign him but at a cheap price.

I was very happy with the Durant signing. I think Dallas has more than enough big names on this team and they need JAGS who can do their job and not totally suck. Now that Huff is gone, I wouldn't mind signning Will Allen as an insurance policy against Matt Johnson not being ready, but am willing to give Johnson the first crack at the FS job. At some point you got to let the young guys play. I am extremely giddy that Matt Slauson and Brandon Moore are not getting big contract offers. I really wish Dallas could come a long term contract with Romo sooner rather than later. Both guys could be brought in very cheaply. Even if Slauson could not beat out Livings, he would be a great swing guard and would ensure that Dockerry never suites up again. Moore at his age could be brought in on a 2 year contract and still start at a very high level. I wish Dallas would bring in both guys. Both have extensive experience in Callahans system and would be able to contribute right away. Best of all with the signing of the 2 guards, Bernadeu could be moved to center and ensure that Phil Costa and Cook never see the field again.

I could see a line of Tyrone Smith, Matt Slauson, Bernadeau, Brandon Moore, and Eric Winston. Parnell could serve as the swing tackle. Livings could be the swing guard. The club could let Costa, Cook, and Kowalski fight it out for the backup center spot. Leary and Arkin would again be on the bubble. Now all of the sudden the Oline would be solid and not a position of weakness. If the backups had to play, they wouldn't be too terrible.

"Fourth-round bust" is an oxymoron.

As it stands, something doesn't sit right with me with regard to Winston. I could see the Cowboys signing Brandon Moore or Slauson and then targeting a OT in the second.

I don't understand the love for Huff. Is he not just another glorified, overpaid geriatric safety?

If the Cowboys are considering bringing in a guy like Huff, then I see no reason why Sensy should not be given another look. They are basically the same player and Sensy would be cheaper.

The only position(s) that make sense (in free agency) at this point are guard or tackle.

Huff isn't a top 5 safety, but he is much better than Sensy IMO.

I don't want Winston. I'd like huff but I don't see him leaving the ravens without a contract.

Is the tackle from Cincy still out there?

This has been a very weird free agent year. I has just come to a screeching halt with some very good players still out there. This could very well help Dallas in the long run if they can clear a little cap space.

Andre Smith? The guy that said he wanted 9M/year? Yes, he is still out there. Shouldn't be on our radar, though.

What is up with you guys and Ernie Sims. He probably will be out of football next year.

No kidding. Complete spare.

And why does the OP think we might sign Winston?

He'll be better this year with a pro health program and a full offseason program. He's even better suited for a 4-3 and can play just about all the LB positions in that system.

So at worst he's solid depth and competes for a starting job at SOLB with Durant who is no scrub either. Wilbur will also be in that competition. I think between Sims, Wilbur and Albright we have great compeition and back up depth behind our LB Starters.
