Don't Mind Me, But I Have to Rant

I haven't been online since the game, and I haven't had the opportunity to rant. Most of what I'm going to say I'm sure has been discussed the past 18 hours or so. Mods can merge or delete if neccessary. This thread is more or less therapy for me.

First... the reality is, the NFL and sports in general are cruel. Think about it, if you're really lucky, you'll get the good fortune of being able to watch your team win the Super Bowl (or other respective championship) a few times in your lifetime. We as Cowboys fans take for granted I think how difficult and how much of a semi-crapshoot it really is. I've been blessed having to have seen 3 Super Bowl wins. But I was too young perhaps to appreciate the significance. I couldn't imagine being a Browns, Seahawks, or etc fan.

It dawned on me yesterday that I really may never see the Cowboys win the Super Bowl in my lifetime again -- and I'm just 32 years old. But think about it, how hard it really is. Wow.

Secondly, so much for momentum, right? The Chargers, and Cowboys were two of the hottest teams going into the playoffs. The Vikings, Saints, Colts limped down the stretch for various reasons. The Jets kinda backed in on account of their opponents laying down for them.

Thirdly, our offensive line needs an overhaul. I say that but I look at each individual and I don't know who exactly needs to be replaced. Adams, Kosier, Gurode, Davis, Columbo.... there's a lot of Pro Bowls and experience there. But they don't play well as a unit. I've kinda known this for a while. I've heard mediots talk about how good they were, but I never really saw it with my own eyes (minus the Eagles game). So if you overhaul the unit, who goes, who stays, what are the salary ramifications, and aren't we limited because of our overall depth.

Fourthly... I hate Terrence Newman. Thanks for letting Rice run right by you on the first touchdown. No, I don't know what the coverage was. It could've been zone. But to me it looked like Newman gave up on coverage and assumed it was going to be a sack.

Fifthly... why didn't we run any of those quick wide receiver screens that have worked so effectively against pressure teams.

Sixthly... I hope Brett Favre suffers an embarrassing loss next week. Or better yet, in the Super Bowl. How classless was it to run the score up. Total P.O.S. in my book.

Seventhly... I hate kickers. Suisham didn't directly lose the game for us, but a 17-9 score in the third quarter is a lot different then a 17-3. Kicker is a position that has cursed us for years. I hope we re-sign Folk and he can work out whatever it is that is causing him his uncharacteristic woes.

Eigthly... I'm glad I'm married with kids now. It has given me perspective. A few years ago this loss would have thrown me into a serious down mood mixed with anger and disgust. Yet, last night when my 2 1/2 year old came up to me and said "Daddy, wanna play cars with me?" I was in a good mood again.

Ninthly... in hindsight this was a good year overall. We lifted some neccessary demons. Won a playoff game. Won past December 1st. Won the division. And the young team gained some valuable experience.

Next year the Super Bowl will be played at Texas Stadium. Here's hoping we do what we have to to make sure we're in it.

Go Cowboys.

Very nice post!! Agree with everything you said, well except that you'll never get to experience another Super Bowl. I believe we are on track to see a couple more within this decade. My nephew is a die hard Cowboy fan (just like me and the majority of my family), he was born in 1996, and he wants to see us win one so bad, so I hope he gets to see as many as I have (5). I really hope we can put it together and win it next year...

One last thing... I'm going to completely ignore sports talk radio, and ESPN, etc for a while. I turned to ESPN Radio first thing this morning right as Colin Cowherd said (paraphrasing) "... and Mark Sanchez has more playoff wins than Tony Romo!"

I quickly cut it off.

Had Sanchez played with our offensive line last night, he wouldn't have won. Give me a break.

I knew it would be bad that's why I've been watching TV Land and Law & Order marathons.

First of all I love your sig. So freaking true.

Great rant by the OP in my not so humble opinion. Best I have seen. Loved the part about playing cars with your son making you happy again. Nice touch.

I agree about Terence Newman. I have no idea what he was thinking. He just looks like figure skater to me out there. Very feminine. He's clearly lost a step too.

Nice post.

And the part about your kid rang true for me also.

Yesterday about the middle of the 3rd quarter a friend brought his kids over so that my daughters could watch them while he went hunting.

They walked in right at about the time my frustration was at it's highest. The next thing you know I've got three little ones saying "Uncle Randy, uncle Randy, uncle Randy!"

Honestly, from that point on, I was over it. I knew we would lose and I wasn't going to break these kids' hearts that were so happy to see me by being a jerk over a football game.

Perspective is sometimes hard to come by when you love this team so much and they break your heart. Those kids actually saved, what could have been, an even more crummy day.

Maybe we should've done something about that.

I agree with that philosophy to an extent. Look at our game against the Eagles where we punted from the thirty instead of going for a field goal with the game solidly in hand.

They were up 20+ points with 3 minutes left, and Brett is chucking it into the end zone.

Classless, IMO.

Great post. Sums up a lot of my thoughts/feelings.

I told my 2-1/2 year old I was sad yesterday.
and she said, "you can not be sad".
I said, "why?".
she said, "because you are with me".

So true.

Do what? The intent is there, whether you stop the play or not. I would have been fine with a FG try but with less than 2:00, no TO's left.

If it's not such a big deal, then why don't all teams do it in the regular season, instead of taking knees all the time?

It was classless. I've always been neural on Favre. I probably would have pulled for the Vikings next week, but since he and his ******* coach are so smug and classless, Go Saints!!!!! Break him in half.

Good post! I do agree, I'm 36 now and I probably didn't fully appreciate the Super Bowls the Cowboys won in the early to mid 90's. I didn't start watching football until 1981, so I missed the 2 prior victories, and 5 previous appearances.

I also agree that a few years ago, this type of loss would have sent me to the doldrums, and made me physically sick & angry for days. I was over it before the game even ended. Heck, after our 2006 loss to the Seahawks, I actually got banned from this forum (permanently).

I do believe that the Cowboys always find greatness. It may be 15 or 20 years apart, but it always happens. I also hold out hope that I will see it once again in my lifetime.

Like you, I spent yesterday evening with my 5 year old twins, and it made me put things into perspective.

I liked it too. I'm expecting soon, so it sort of puts things in perspective too. After the game my wife and I went for Mediterranean food and strolled downtown Austin.

I was irrational for about 1hr and I let it go. :)

Let's hope next season brings just as much fun.

I am 26, and I'd love to see the Cowboys win another SB in this lifetime. I must say that I am sad by our loss. But however, if we don't self destruct like we did in 08 in 2010. We will be ok. Just as long as the Steelers don't win it in our stadium.

Kids are great. Nothing like the your kids to pick you up when you are down. My 16 month old daughter can make me laugh and smile anytime no matter what else is going on.

Make a fourth down conversion? Gee. There's a thought.

Look, dude. 3 points. Coulda been 100 - 3. Still embarrassing offensively. Period.

Spin your misery anyway you want but you may want to try and let go.
