Desean Jackson. Jordan Reed. Pierre Garcon. Matt Jones. Crowder.

Yes, that is one of the best accumulations of talent, particularly at receiver in the league. I didn't say they have the best production, but they certainly have very good talent.

Average talent with average production.

As well as the defense has played, its just mind boggling that they can't generate any turnovers. Cowboys putrid offense needs as many short fields as it can get.

They've played great. But that big -15 TO differential number is pretty much the story of the season. Bad QB play in some cases, and a complete inability to win close games because we cannot seem to get takeaways to save our life.

Everyone played their butt off on defense, except for Morris Claiborne.. He's the biggest joke of a CB in the NFL in my opinion! Another horrendous game by him, just go back and watch pretty much every play. TERRIBLE

Mo has played above expectations this year, and has had some good games. Can't defend every play to one's liking. It happens. Asked Deion when he covered Irvin, oh wait, he couldn't. But no one said he sucked when he gave up a TD to him.
Jackson has a lot more speed than Mo, and it was a very good play call at the time.

Wilcox had a worse game than Mo IMO, but that is just my take on it.

Defense played the best it has all season, as they actually finished a game not gassed.
They had to overcome 3 turnovers by the offense. And held Washington to punts or FG's. Pretty good for a Commanders team that was moving the ball and putting up points in previous games.

Fumble wise, it's not like the ball hasn't been hitting the ground to some degree, it just doesn't bounce our way. Can't help that.

While they deserve their props, they still allowed to opposition to drive down the field to get the tying score in the last couple of minutes.

That has to stop!

Fortunately the Skins left enough time on the clock for use to get the field goal.

I agree that they allowed a score but the defense is the reason why the game was close and they shouldn't have been in that position in the first place if the offense scored more than one td.

But you can't play well for 56-58 min and then let the other team score whatever they need to win or tie the game.

No matter who's playing QB there will be games where the score is tight and the defense will have to make that final stop and close out the game.

Far too often we don't and as I've said previously it's not just this year this has happened.

Don't forget the offense did no favors to the defense by giving the ball away 3 times. Giving the Deadskins a short field.

The defense played well but when the game was on the line they cracked as usual giving up a TD with only 44 seconds left that could have gotten us beat. The defense is capable of playing well at times and for long stretches but they always manage to give up a big score at the end or fail to make a critical 3rd down stop when a game is on the line. The Cowboys were fortunate last night they weren't playing a good team. It seemed like neither team wanted to win it was a real snoozer for 3 quarters.

The Cowboys were able to get out of Dodge by hanging in with nothing but FG's until the 4th quarter. Playing against Aaron Rodgers on Sunday they're going to have to generate a lot more offense and put several TD's on the board to beat the Packers. The D won't be able to hang in against Rodgers with little help from the offense.

Sir, I'm not even talking about that one play.. He was pretty bad on most of the snaps.

The defense did what they were supposed to do. They let a touchdown go at the end of the game, but then again, McFadden shouldn't have ran out of bounds for one, and the offense should have taken as much time off the clock as possible. It's sort of like the game we won against the Giants the first game in. Sure, they could have blamed their defense, but they put the blame on Eli for throwing the ball out of bounds and stopping the clock for us.

I don't know why the onus is on the defense to play 4 quarters of shutout ball and generate all of these turnovers, but the offense can slide by kicking field goals all day. If you want a shut out defense, you're going to have to invest more resources into that side of the ball, which I'm not opposed to.

I'm perfectly fine with Jalen Ramsey or Bosa to really shore up that side of the ball, because Marinelli is getting a lot out of that side of the ball with no names at a lot of the positions.

The pass defense gave up 219 yards through the air. Give me a break to anyone calling them out. Did they give up a bad touchdown in crunch time? Yeah, but they should have never been in that position. It was a bad call to have no one over the top of Jackson, but if Marinelli had played passive, he would have caught just as much if not more flack here. He stuck with what had worked for 3 and 14/15ths quarters. This defense is not bullet proof but they played well enough to escape the usual grumbling, pissing and moaning of the pessimistic dingle berries on this forum.

Yeah, I want to score 100 points and give up no points every game, but I am also realistic.

All that said, I would love to add a difference maker like Ramsey, Hargreaves or Bosa in the draft!

  1. Why is everyone surprised? This defense has only allowed 1 (one) offensive touchdown per game in 4 of the last 5 game
  2. This defense is ranked 5 th in total by espn.
  3. Even all the commentators ( nfl live and stephen a smith) acknowledge that the defense has been excellent this season.
  4. The offense and special teams have put this defense in precarious situations time and time again with multiple fumbles and/or picks on our side of the field or allowing decent returns. Last night we had 2-3 fumbles on our side of the field. Comeon now.

Should have blitzed long ago.

The only issue is Marinelli going prevent and conservative on those third and longs. It's like the man went bi-polar.

Lol. I was shocked too!! I can take losing if this is our approach. Hate to see a loss on the field feeling you left some in the tank due to a passive gameplan.

Jerry was asked about claibornes future with the cowboys before the game and he dodged the question. Claiborne is also afraid to tackle runningbacks and tight ends.

Except for a few lapses, the defense has been good enough to win with this year.

We're fifth in total defense, which isn't always a telling stat but says a lot to me with the overall ineptness of our offense without Romo.

Yes - and one of those lapses really surprised me.

When a team has 3rd and 15+ we employ a defense called Money 46. It's a 3-6-2 with a virtual picket fence on the yard to make. It's extremely effective.

Last week Carolina had a 3rd & 17 and for some stupid reason we blitzed and they torched us.

Last night Washington had a 3rd & 15 and incredibly Cousins threaded a pass in and they converted.

It's the first time we have ever given up a first down in the Money 46 defense.

Defense has played well most of the season. Offense and special teams giving up scores and turning the ball over hasn't helped
