I think most of the time it takes balance. The Patriots' Super Bowl run is credited a lot to Brady, but New England also had one of the best defenses in the league the years that they won. Our dynasty had the triplets, but also the No. 1 defense for at least a couple of those years.

There have been a few exceptions where an offense or defense is so good that it carries the other side of the ball, but that's all they are, exceptions. The Ravens with Dilfer and the Bucs with Brad Johnson are two of those. And if I remember right, the Greatest Show on Turf Rams with Warner pretty much carried that team to a title. Usually, one unit can be stronger than the other, but if the other unit is not very good, you are not going to go far. I think that's why a team like the Giants when they had Eli could win. The defense was top of the league and the offense was good enough, especially once it found its running game. Eli on any other team would be seen as just a middle-of-the-road QB.

If it wasn't for those great teams of 50 years ago you probably wouldn't be a Cowboys' fan.

Just because you weren't there to witness it doesn't mean you have to disrespect it.

We were so spoiled.

We expected the Cowboys to win. In fact, when they lost, the opponent and their fans reacted as though they won the Super Bowl. It was automatically the Game of the Week.

I have noticed some things: Great Defenses like that do not win many rings. Both Doomsdays only got one; The Ravens best D got one; the Bucs best D got one. Minnesota's Purple People Eaters never got any. The Fearsome Foursome of the Rams did not even get close.
You have got to have a top offense if you want more.

several of those coaches were in the HOF; so its hard to say they failed. But you have to wonder. Look at how many close calls the Cowboys had. One or two plays different and we would have had five or six more Championships. Starting with the Ice Bowl, SB against the Colts; both Squealer Games; The Catch.
