this is really a good question
DLaw went from the future to part of a rotation
what a turn of events

Gregory is more of a pass rush specialist IMO and better suited for that. His size makes him a real liability against the run, DLaw is still the starter.

I just watched a Gregory video showing how they used Gregory at Neb.
he is plenty strong with good leverage but does get washed out sometimes
however we use him he will be a faltor

I wouldn't call it Doomsday just yet. However, I will say that we are taking steps in the right direction! Another smart draft and manageable cap space going into 2016 can potentially make us a Top 10 Defense. We are finally becoming a well-balanced dangerous football team. Me likey!

Great point. JG is building for multiple years of success, not just one and done as has been the case in the long dry spell between SB wins.

There is hope on defense that we won't just be good....but that we could be....really good.

Weve greatly improved the defensive unit and im anxious to see what marinelli can do with the pass rushers. We could still use some lb help despite the signings, along with dt depth. Im holding off giving this defense a nickname, theyre going to have to earn it first.

Of course Gregory is a somewhat of a gamble but I like the chip he will have. This will be the defensive Randy Moss. I can't believe all the other GM's haven't learned from Randy Moss. Either we'll pay for this or we're geniuses. Anyone can pay for the perfect stock. A little risk and foresight is involved to truly win.

First round defensive back talent, a pass rusher, and a swing tackle. I'd say we've definitely started this year's draft with a boom. All three were needs and none of them were considered a reach. This defense is gonna step it up another notch this year.

So does this mean the team has moved past DLaw? I think Lawrence starts and Gregory is 3rd down specialist when Hardy moves inside. However this does put writing on wall that Hardy is probably only a rental which is probably best.

I don't think it means the team has moved beyond him, and I do think he will still start. I think technically the starters in this season will be lawrence and mincey. That was my ideal "starters" lineup.

I think Gregory will be mainly in on 3rd downs, but I think they will use him as much as he is ready for. I think until Hardy is reinstated, he will find himself in a rotation with Mincey and Lawrence.

I think we are stuck with him regardless, his salary is accounted for so as long as we are under the cap...does it matter how much he makes? Sure he is overpaid but we are better off with him, he was playing solid towards the end of last season and will be even better with a pass rush.

You can cut him in June, and you end up saving a lot of money this year and next year. That cap space can be used this year or carried over. Definitely no reason to play him at this rate of compensation just because he is still on the roster.

I'll take any pejorative defensive name out there. We have become a better team the last two days and this
entire off season. We are now a contender from the trophy.

I am not usually overly enthusiastic about betting on the come with draft picks. While it irritates some, my "show me" attitude takes over and I want to see the steak and not merely listen to the sizzle.

However...

I find Gregory intriguing. He possesses all the components and possibilities of a pass rusher who can get the opposing quarterback off his sweet spot and disrupt the timing of the passing game. He is raw, and that means the dreaded word potential comes into play. For me potential is like casting a curse on the player.

But not this time, I think.

Now marry this with DLaw, who appeared at the end of last year to be putting it together, and toss in Hardy, an established force, and this defense looks to be much improved.

On Paper.

Yet, moving into the top ten is all it takes. If the offense can have a committee of running backs who will keep the defense off the field by a robust rushing attack, this defense can substantially move up if they solve the third down dilemma all defenses face.

Win on third down on both sides of the ball and your team's ability to win championships increases exponentially.

No pass rush, no pass defense has been a mainstay for me for a great while as the team threw money at corner backs. But now the sizzle indicates there just might be a steak close by.,

The potential is there for this to come together.

But then there's that word again.

We'll see.

We took a big step forward these last few days. I like having Hardy, Gregory, DeMarcus Lawrence on the line - Lee back at linebacker (if he can stay healthy), another solid corner. However I'm still uncomfortable at D-tackle and safety. Maybe Bryon Jones moves over to safety - but the team needs a disruptive DT who can create some push in the pass rush.

With all these pass rushers there will have to be a rotation because we still need to stop the run.

This time last year I planned to close my eyes every time an opposing qb dropped back; now I'm actually excited to see how this unit shakes out especially with hardy on board.
