I am not usually overly enthusiastic about betting on the come with draft picks. While it irritates some, my "show me" attitude takes over and I want to see the steak and not merely listen to the sizzle.
However...
I find Gregory intriguing. He possesses all the components and possibilities of a pass rusher who can get the opposing quarterback off his sweet spot and disrupt the timing of the passing game. He is raw, and that means the dreaded word potential comes into play. For me potential is like casting a curse on the player.
But not this time, I think.
Now marry this with DLaw, who appeared at the end of last year to be putting it together, and toss in Hardy, an established force, and this defense looks to be much improved.
On Paper.
Yet, moving into the top ten is all it takes. If the offense can have a committee of running backs who will keep the defense off the field by a robust rushing attack, this defense can substantially move up if they solve the third down dilemma all defenses face.
Win on third down on both sides of the ball and your team's ability to win championships increases exponentially.
No pass rush, no pass defense has been a mainstay for me for a great while as the team threw money at corner backs. But now the sizzle indicates there just might be a steak close by.,
The potential is there for this to come together.
But then there's that word again.
We'll see.
