I read somewhere yesterday (somewhere online) that he figures he'll eventually play at about 240...

Also, be advised that he scored 6 TDs this season as Pitt's goal-line fullback... and so, the only remaining question would seem to be his ability to lead block... given that he played some linebacker in college too, I'm guessing he doesn't mind hitting people...

Dickerson has never been over 230lbs that I can find. I can't find anything that says he played FB at Pitt either. It's possible he lined up back there as an H-back, but not according to the Panthers site.

http://www.pittsburghpanthers.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/dickerson_dorin00.html

Dickerson has never rushed for a TD....he's only rushed 5 times at Pitt...twice in the last 2 years.

He got 10 TD's last year and 2 TD's in 2008 as a TE....where did he line up?
I don't know where he lined up, but he definitely didn't carry the ball in.

He played LB in 2007, which was a mistake by Pitt obviously.

He did get 1 TD on a reverse back in 2006....there's your rushing TD I guess.

"Pittsburgh TE Dorin Dickerson measured in with a weight of 226 pounds at the NFL Scouting Combine. Dickerson acknowledged that some scouts are concerned about his size, but he is looking to add enough weight to get to 240 pounds."

"Dickerson said, "I think they're going to look at me as a flex tight end, I'm probably going to put on some weight,"

http://www.kffl.com/player/22543/NFL

I can't find anything that says he played FB at Pitt either. It's possible he lined up back there as an H-back, but not according to the Panthers site.

"The Chiefs had a formal interview with Pittsburgh TE Dorin Dickerson. He's 6'1", 222 pounds and has experience at fullback as well."

http://www.arrowheadpride.com/2010/2/26/1327701/chiefs-meet-with-a-pair-of-tight

And if you check the NFL Draft Scout rankings, you'll find they rate Dorin their 4th best fullback... just like another player the Boys have talked to, Garrett Graham, who was a TE in college, but NFLDS has him their top-ranked fullback...

Think about it, 6-1 is pretty short for a TE, but is good height for a FB... and the Boys are really in pretty good shape at TE, but have a real need at FB...

OK, this may be my bad... I would have sworn that I read earlier today that he'd had six rushing TDs from their goal line sets, but I can't find that now... so maybe I just misremembered some remarks about somebody else...

I still say IF he can demonstrate some lead blocking skills, he might make a good fullback prospect... same with Garrett Graham... for sure, Dickerson would be dangerous circling out of the backfield...

If you can run a 4.40 forty...why in the world would a OC put you at FB?

Last time I checked a 4.40 forty = major vertical threat

You want this guy to line up at FB and lead block with that kind of speed?

What a waste of talent!

Makes zero sense to me.

No, no, no....Dickerson needs to line up wide or in the slot to utilize that speed period.

isn't he to big to play in the slot? I'm all for drafting him though. He'd create mismatches as a FB, WR, TE, RB.

Not really. The Titans drafted Jared Cook in the 3rd last year, a 246lb TE who ran similar 40 times with the thought of having him play some in the slot.

Dickerson's a great athlete that doesn't have a position and really can't find one.

He's too small and isn't much of a blocker to play TE/FB and isn't quick enough to play WR at the next level.

His best hope to make a team is going to come on special teams. He has the size and straight line speed to become something but he never showed the third requirement, a killer attitude, while at Pitt.

I have a 5th/6th round grade on him but he'll go higher thanks to the hope by some team that he can put on the weight (which I doubt).

Not invited to the combine but still being followed by many NFL teams (Saints, Jaguars, Browns to mention a few) and has been mentioned in these forums.

Jameson Konz from Kent State. Similar to Dorin Dickerson in that he was moved around during his college years from LB, to DE, to TE, and then finally to H-back/WR for his senior year. This sometimes makes it hard for a player to really show their true talent as they have to adjust.

Watch for his pro day workout numbers after they come out (I think Kent State has theirs on March 11). Jameson Konz 6-3, 240, runs similar 40 times to Dickerson which is intriguing given his size and strength - look for 28-30 reps @225, which would put him at the top of this year's TE group.

Most draft services have him as a 7th rounder/PFA, but depending on his pro day workout, he probably won't last that long. For as bad of a D-1 football program Kent State has been running the past few years, they've put out some decent NFL talent recently - Josh Cribbs, James Harrison, Julian Edelman, Daniel Muir, Abe Elam, Usama Young, Jack Williams, and Antonio Gates - although he was a basketball player while at Kent State.

Sounds like he needs to make the switch to safety. I wonder if teams are looking at him from that standpoint?

He's not just a straight line guy, either. His 40 time was not only the fastest of all TEs, but the second fastest of ALL receivers! He also finished 1st among ALL players with a 43.5 vertical, his broad jump, 10'5", was 1st among TEs & second among ALL players. He was 3rd among TEs in both the 20-yard shuttle, (4.3 seconds) and the 3-cone drill, (6.9 seconds), and 4th in bench press reps with 24. (I saw him bench 470 lbs. on Youtube, also.)

At 6'4", 230, 4.4, this dude could become a super WR with the right coaching. Check him out on Youtube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O9fZQpuoJ_Q

It shows him getting wide open on a regular basis for the Panthers. He seems to be good at getting YACs, and is a good open field runner.

Having said all that, I would have to dig deeper before declaring him the Savior. Why didn't Pitt play him at WR? Why is he being rated as a FB by most sites?

There is no doubt this guy is a heck of an athlete. He's worth checking as deep as we have to.

That's my question as well. If the guy can play WR, why didn't he in college?

Maybe he was the biggest/strongest/fastest guy they could put at TE. According to the Pitt team site, Dickerson was voted first team All-American by the Football Writers Association of America. He was also first team All-Big East. His 10 TDs last season set the mark for TEs in team history for a season. He was also a finalist for the John Mackey award.

Man, this guy is pretty good for someone I've never heard of.

If you hadn't heard of him until recently, you're slipping old friend. You need to get back to watching players instead of forming your opinion based on someone else's opinion.

Saw this article today on Jameson Konz in the Cleveland newspaper. It looks like he's getting some attention from the NFL.
