First, this is a game the Cowboys should win ... So, if things don't go well tonight, please don't lose your heads and flood the site with posts over who should be fired and/or the season's over, because it won't be.
"Balanced team = winning, with confidence?" If you say so!
Eagles are trying to convince themselves they can win without T.O. To me, this is no different than an eternal pessimist trying to convince themselves things will go well by telling everyone that everything will be okay. Confident (aka: optimistic) people believe it will happen and have no need to say it.
While I disagree with your adaptation of the Eagles objectives, you are describing the
Pygmalion Effect or "self fulfilling prophecy." If you self talk something enough, you not only believe it, but it actually can happen.
While the Eagles are upbeat and looking forward to tonight's game, in the back of their minds they have to be waiting for that inevitable "here we go again" event to happen. So, I look for the Eagles to come out strong filled with emotions and their fans to be really loud. However, if the Cowboys can score early and take the lead, I expect the Eagles emotion to deflate and McNabb's passing accuracy to disappear.
Actually you have me at a disadvantage -- I wish I knew what was in the minds of the Eagles players. But if they are all thinking what you're saying, at Least they are thinking collectively as a unit. But I rather doubt that they have that type of fatalistic view towards this very important game in about an hour and a half from now.
As for the game plan .. I feel the biggest reason is that the Eagles will be on an emotional high at the beginning of most games and will be looking to celebrate shutting down the Cowboys offense right from the start.
Agree.
By bringing Julius in later in the game, Parcells is not only bringing in fresh legs, he's letting Julius avoid the hard emotionally driven hits the Eagles defensive players are sure to give the Cowboys offense during the first couple of series.
Partially true, but could it be that Julius is not 100%.
Another reason I expect Barber to start is that he is more reliable at catching passes than Julius.
That pigskin is going to be awfully slippery tonight --I see picks and fumbles on both teams.
While I don't expect a blow out game like the first one between these two teams, I do expect Parcells to come out with Bledsoe passing the ball several times even if on swing passes, quick slants to the receivers and passes over the middle to Witten. They should also take a few shots down the field to get the Eagles defense on their heals a little.
Again, unlikely that pigskin is going to be awfully slippery tonight --I see picks and fumbles on both teams.
Bottom line, I understand everything you've said and seriously, it's a good post if you are a Cowboys fan on a Cowboys MB. But if you're not; like I'm not, then many of the things said could be turned around and used as it applies to you. Because whether you want to hear this or not, this is the truest test that you've had so far -- even that blow out game we had with the Cowboys earlier. The road to the playoff comes through Philly.
