Free is a player that will always need replaced. He plays good enough at times to give a little hope, but at the end of the day the RT position needs upgraded if they want consistent play at the position.

There is nothing factual to base that statement on. The team is very happy with their OT play.

The team's evaluation of their whole oline over the last few years is questionable at best. Do you have a source on the team that backs that statement up?

Yes. I said so. Or you can look in secret places they keep hidden gems like that.....books, articles, media, etc.

You're right that in the past the evaluation of offensive lineman has been putrid.

But things have improved. Look at Smith. Yeah, it's easy to that he should be good because he was a high round draft pick, but there are several early 1st round tackles out there who aren't playing to his level.

They nabbed Parnell off of the Saint's practice, and in limited time has shown some positive attributes at both left and right tackle.

The Frederick pick was almost universally mocked and at the moment he's a top-10 center.

Leary... undrafted because of the knee has done a "OK" job as a starting guard. I would think that there's room for improvement.

And even Bern, who has taken a beating by fans has played pretty well this year.

Whatever the change, the Cowboys are doing a much better job at evaluating offensive line talent.

Although that play makes Free look bad, I've been very pleased with how he's come back this season to be the player Dallas thought it was getting when it signed him to a long-term deal. Both of Dallas' tackles have been very good.

I second that, especially taking a pay cut and playing the way he is. Some of the posters here are unbelievable, guess watch too many macho movies. If we do not win 100-0 with touchdown on every pass and sack every defensive play, we are a failure. Looking at our week stops and acknowledging is good for discussion, but nitpicking on minor things like these drives me nuts

It was only last year that there evaluation included the great Phil Costa as a starting quality center. Remember all the good things Jerry said about him? That is fairly recent IMO.

I think most take what Jerry says with a grain of salt... Hey we know that unless there is a complete cluster ***** that Jerry won't say anything negative about anyone.

And before he was injured Costa played well in his limited appearances in 2012.

The way I look at it is... Is this offensive line better than the one in 2010? Yeah.

Is it better than the one in 2011? Yeah.

Is it better than the one in 2012? Yeah.

One might say that it was not big deal to have a better Oline than the previous 3 seasons, but I think the fact of the matter is given the competitive nature of the NFL and that you're in constant competition with each and every other team for talent, improving any unit that has 5 members in it takes some effort and better evaluation skills in order to succeed.

I don't see how anyone could look at this offensive line, compare it with the last 3 offensive lines and not deduce that something has changed somewhere.

There was nowhere to go but up. They actually made an effort to improve by using first round draft picks. It was long overdue.'i have no problem says that Free is a player that can and should be upgraded if the opportunity comes up. I think they was banking on Parnell stepping up this year and it hasn't happened. There is nothing wrong with them continuing to upgrade the line and Free and Bernadeau would be where they should start. Waters is only a year or two solution at his age.

I agree that continuing to upgrade the line is a necessity. And I have no problems busting on them for the poor choices they made previously when it comes to the offensive line. On the other hand I'll hand out some props if I think it's warranted and I think this offensive line is a big step in the right direction.

Free is about as reliable as a druggie on detox-you never know when he is going to go back to the junk; in Free's case you never know when he will lose it again; and lately he has been slipping. Bernie is up and down like a yo yo. Both need to be replaced.

I can't believe that anyone can look at Free's play this year and consider it anything less than good. I think some people hold past performances (and plays like this one) against players and have blinders on when it comes to evaluating how they are playing now.

Both of the tackles are really playing at a high level right now. Frederick, as a rookie center, has had a few hiccups, but overall has played very well. Bernadeau has done better than I expected stepping back in for Waters, who was solid, but I haven't gone back and watched him closely. And Leary has been up and down, but that probably should be expected since he's a first-year starter.

Free has played very well this year, one play doesn't define him. He's been gettin it done.

I do watch the games, haven't missed one in close to 35yrs. He'll be fine and has played well.

I would agree that the last 6 weeks for Free have been up & down. One week decent, the next week not.

We'll see how he finishes out the season.
