So, remind me...

Are the Cowboys leading the division or are the Commanders?

After reading this whole post, I really can't tell...

Do you guys ever have anything good to say? Seriously. One play - a guy gets dumped. Had no affect on the play or the game's outcome. And then, you slaughter Jerry, Garrett, Kiffin - and, it goes on and on and on...

Hey - I live in the Philly area - you guys should join the Eagles fans. You'd fit right in...

Hit the weight room or something........................jeez

Not strength, it's all footwork and balance, and his has always been bad. Look at his profile before he get's tossed like a used kleenex. His feet are WAY out in front of his body mass. It was just like knocking over a two legged stool - not hard at all. It's not that he isn't strong, his feet get him in trouble and he isn't set to use his weight and strength to his advantage. And on this play, it's to his disadvantage.

I was equally impressed with Murray throwing a shoulder in on the pass rusher on that same play...

was gonna say that
the way the DL was coming with momentum, if murray does not throw the shoulder, it is likely romo gets pressured/sacked and i think this was 3rd down

so that was a critical play

Like many have said, it has to do with lower body position and leverage and less to do with who is stronger.

Go watch a sumo wresting match. You'll see 400+ LB man get tossed around like Free by a guy who may weigh half as much.

There's a reason why defenders aren't allowed to grab offensive linemen's facemasks.

It does look bad, .. it was bad, .. but I think it was a case of messed up footwork than total domination.

If you watch, his right foot rolls a little after contact, and then he needs a deep step with his left foot to recover. He can' t get that and only takes a small step with his left foot which pitches him backward.

Kind of like tripping on a shoelace or something.

All in all he was not that bad overall today.

You are arguing with the mob. Some folks are still hanging on to their position that Free should be released and the position handed to Parnell. They have too much ego invested in their past rants to give Doug Free any kind of credit.

A lot of truth here. And I'm still not convinced that on this particular play, Free's foot didn't collide with Murray's foot as Murray is coming forward. Look at it closely boys.

That play looks close to hands to the face and I'm reasonably sure he had his left foot tangled with the RG's right foot. Or maybe stepped on. That play is at 9:40 of the third. They don't have the coaches film up yet so I can't say anything firm from the angle given of the condensed film. The player got directed in and the RG picked him up. We ended up tying the game on that drive. Haven't watched it all but Fred and Leary looked good run blocking on that drive. Free picked up a hold in the RZ there on a run play TD and that hurt his run rating I'm sure. He scored above average on his pass blocking per PFF.

Free has been better than last year, but is still a player that I would like to see upgraded. Free is not a good run blocker. The Right Tackle should be a better run blocker than the LT, but that's not the case on this team.

I was disappointed that Parnell was injured for most of training-camp/pre-season. He is a better run blocker than Free and has the potential to be better in pass protection with enough experience.

The OLine's run blocking was better today than it has been in most games this season. I can't comment on Free in today's game until I've reviewed the game footage.

Smith is ranked #11 and Free #16 in the league out of 78 tackles. Free was the top tackle for several weeks. There is no need to spend resources on what is not a problem. They also like Parnell and Weems. JMO.

Agreed.

Adding two additional defensive lineman and another guard are more important IMO.

Who cares? Free has been good this season, and I'm pretty sure nobody say his play turning around like it has.

They changed the OLine scheme this season to help cover up Free's issues.

They have the RG keep a closer than normal spacing between himself and Free. To compensate they have the Center help block primarily to the right. The LG rarely gets help from the Center despite being a 1st time starter that had zero experience in real NFL games prior to the beginning of the season. This change minimizes the outside pass rushers ability to beat Free to the inside which allows Free to over-set to the outside giving him an advantage on the rusher.

They also alter the way they call running plays because of Free. They run just inside or just outside on the Left behind Smith; however, they try to avoid doing it on the right. The runs to the right are usually between the Center and RG or wide outside. When they tried going behind Free against the Raiders, he was called for holding and Murray's TD was nullified.

Free might look good in the PFF ratings; however, in reality, when you see Leary get beat at LG, it is often because the entire scheme is compensating for Free instead of giving help to Leary. On most OLines, the 1st year starter (Leary) would be the guy getting help, not the veteran player with the big contract.

I agree that they have options at OT and have a bigger need at Guard. They basically have no backup Guards on the roster. Costa is the only interior backup and he is primarily a Center. They have had Weems practice at Guard but I don't know to what extent. I would like to see Parnell challenge Free in training camp next season. Unfortunately Parnell was injured for most of the pre-season/training-camp and didn't have the opportunity to unseat Free this season.

IMO, an injury to a Guard would be a bigger problem that an injury to a DLineman. It would be unwise to go into the off-season expecting Waters to return next season. He is a nice option if they have injury issues in training camp, but otherwise, they need to add a real Guard in the draft or Free Agency.

Dont we have somebody that can teach him how stand correctly?

Like an offensive line coach or something?

He has only been on the team how many years?
