On the TD to Miles, Free (in an unbalanced line) made a phenomenal play in pass pro that few tackles can make. Showed remarkably quick feet and great alertness. John Phillips (I think) was getting beat on the pass rush and Free reversed his field, ran all the way back behind Romo and chipped the defender so that Romo had time to complete the TD to Miles. Huge play...

The first GIF in Hypnotoad's list (thanks, Hypno...)

thats called athleticism, football IQ and hustle. flo usually show lack of one of these three traits on every down. flo would have give up 4 sacks if romo didnt duck, spin and/or move up into the pocket early against the saints.

Wow, that was an awesome play! Love it!

To give Phillips a little props, he had a pretty awesome pick up on a goaline play which set allowed a TD to happen, but I haven't seen the GIF anywhere yet.

Well, I HATE ;) to be a party pooper but...............Phillips is there to help Free. Free woofed. Thank god Phillips held him at bay 'til Free got there.

Still.................goes to show how miniscule the workings of a play are. Not much between making it or missing it.

Nice play by Free but it looks like Romo still gets that throw off even if Free doesn't get in the way - barely.

In Marc Colombo's absence Doug Free has shown me that he will be a big part of the future offensive line. I think he is more suited for left tackle due to his athleticism, he just needs to continue to improve his technique.

Did he wiff or was he responsible for the LB if he blitzed, which he faked and then dropped back.

I have been impressed with Free, I think he has done a solid job filling in for Colombo and I think he has a future in Dallas.

if you guys watch the game again Free decleated the Saints db Randel Gay on the bubble screen to Miles a play or 2 before Barber scored his 1st td. Romo gave him dap for that.

I am pretty sure frees job was inside technique there, when the LB dropped in coverage he checked for a delayed blitz then went to help phillips.

Inside pressure always has the priority. Free's problem is that he is not strong enough to stop the bull rushers.

......no.... take a look a little closer. Free is glaring right at that LB that is delaying a blitz and the moment he drops back into coverage free turns around and runs to help phillips.

Awesome effort by Free to help out a teammate and let Romo get thta pass off.

For some reason this board has a love affair with Columbo who is a very limited player because he is a feel-good story about resurrecting his career 2.5 years after his injury with hard work. If you look objectively, Free is a far superior player and is already now looking like he is better than Flo too. Look at how fluidly he moves in those GIFs against outside speed rushers keeping them far away from Romo instead of lungeing at them and keeping them inches away from sniping at Romo's arm.

Free is a good one. Don't let your love affair with Columbo interfere with your analysis. Columbo was causing alot of heat to reach Romo and was a penalty machine.

I would try to trade him or make him the backup swing tackle. I don't think he's a quality starter anymore.

An animated gif of Colombo punking DHall goes a long way.

Actually if you re-watch the play, the outside rusher is Phillips' responsibility. Free had the inside guy. As soon as the linebacker backs off in to coverage, Free gets on his horse and assists Phillips giving Romo the extra split second to complete the pass. Heady play by Free, and game changing IMO.

Free's a POS.

Burmashave has said so. He heard Free was beaten on a play in training camp.

I'd like to see Free at LT next year and Columbo back at RT, unless we use a 1st rounder on a LT(Yeah right).

we will need a backup Swing Tackle -unless you Still want Mcq there

I see Fox as being that guy eventually taking Columbos spot

be it Fox or Free -

I think we trade down a bit an pick up Fox and get an extra 2-3 rounder
