Not sure what happened to him but you have to seriously look at the fact that he got paid the big $$$$$$ then stunk up the joint. Lack of motivation?
There are probably a number of reasons he stunk and each played a small part to add up to the whole mess.
1) The Guard next to him wasn't as good.
2) Scheme change (Houck v. Callahan)
3) Nagging injuries
4) His bank account
Now I know 3 of these mitigating circumstances may look like I'm defending him, but I 'm not. I just see these as reasons Free did not accept a pay cut. I think we've all been looking at the situation with two assumptions. First is that he was lousy (ok). Secondly,
That he realized he was lousy and it was his fault.
I think Free and his agent actually think that they'll do better in a different scheme with a different team.
Now the only concern is whether the Cowboys really really think that Parnell is good enough to start. Honestly, I'd rather Parnell stayed at the swing tackle position because I don't trust him, but I'm not a good enough evaluator, so my opinion should be taken with a grain of salt. But now is the time to either have him be the starter, or write him off as a swing guy from now on. Any signing would be a clichéd "progress stopper" for Parnell. The question his whether Dallas sees Parnell as the guy at any point in time. It's now or never.
We'll know what the Cowboys think eventually. Personally, I hope we sign Clabo.
