Doug Free refuses pay cut **Unofficial**

This.

I hate Free as much as the next guy, but I dont think we should be rejoicing that much right now. However flawed, I still do not think Jerry's plan is to sign a starting RT like Clabo or Winston. I think he wants to roll with Parnell as the starter and sign a $2 million swing tackle, who likely will be worse, not better, than Free (if that's possible).

Could see them going after a guy like Justice or Webb instead.

Well if I was Free, I wouldn't take the pay cut either.

Either way, I don't think we should celebrate this happening cause all it does is make it harder when we try to resign Dez and Lee if we try to sign a Clabo.

I didnt have a problem with Free's contract, I had a problem with his performance. Him taking a pay cut may have helped with the salary cap but what about improving the rt position?

The Cowboys need to find a way out of the cap situation because they're the ones that got themselves into it.

I don't really think this is totally true. This is just a spin off Fisher's article that he wrote the other day.

Also, I just trolled his twitter and I didn't see anything about Free refusing pay cut.

Edit: checked again and this is what was tweeted...

.@1053thefan to be clear: Doug Free's PRESENT position is that he thinks he's not w #cowboys post-June 1. Negotiations can change that.

Title changed to unofficial. There is nothing out there to confirm this yet.

Nothing should ever be labled as OFFICIAL unless a Cowboys reps says it as regards things like this.

Fisher is NOT a Cowboys rep.

Great day to be a Cowboys fan. Sensabaugh, Spears, and Free...the Holy Trinity of Bums are gone.

Now if we can somehow get rid of at least one of Costa, Bernie and Livings.

Weird groupings of players to not like here.

When you see their upgrades this year, you will regret all the years of defending you did for these bums. I'm going to be serving so much crow on Sensabaugh...can't wait. With these three gone, I consider this a successful offseason. Everything else is Icing on the cake.

Why do I imagine you with the same facial expression Michael Irvin has in your sig.? :)

upon hearing the news I immediatly went into a 80's breakdancing routine...needless to say I need someone to come help me off the floor.....j/k :lmao:

Lol. I don't really have anything invested in defending any of those guys except, probably, Phil Costa. I like Spears a lot from what I've seen of him as a person, but wasn't attached to his play on the field.

These guys are just what they are, common variety borderline NFL starters that exist on every roster in the NFL. I'm happy to see each of their positions upgraded. I just don't happen to go in for calling people bums when I believe they're working hard, but just aren't good enough to be great at what they're trying to do.

A bum in my book is a player like Brodney Poole or Alex Barron, who came in and just wasn't willing to put in the work.

So many misleading threads... Thanks OP for another :)

Don't blame the OP, I read the article and they made it sound like Free was gone for sure. If anything, blame the AJC for jumping to conclusions.

He was our worst player last year so good riddance if true.

Would JJ still go after Clabo? Not sure how much Free's cut will save, but it would sure make some players uncomfortable. Maybe Free's reps know this and are tying up the cap space purposely. I don't know, I just know we need to add another OT regardless if Free stays or goes!!

I think no. The preferred plan appears to be to not have the cap full of more dead money, and Free take a paycut to play swing tackle and Parnell to start.

It just seems like if we're all in on protecting Romo and the resources are available, why not add more competition?

I don't think you can make the assumption that the resources are available.
