Doug Free

Lots of people hated him... I think not having him around could have been one of biggest reasons with some of the struggles on the oline. Thoughts?

I dont think so. Collins had to adjust but at the end of the season he was already an upgrade.

Our line troubles came from cooper and smith not being healthy. And from people not used to playing together.

We have to find an Upgrade at lg and solve the issues smith has.

Collins played well of course! But from what I understand he was the leader in the locker room.

He was. But you always have leaders who have to retire. Others will come up and lead. Give them some time.

Collins at guard last year was pretty good!

I didnt like him at guard. Couldnt stick to Blocks long enough on run plays and wasnt very good in pass protection.

For sure he had some great blocks for highlight films but when you look at the details he wasnt that great. I like him more as a tackle. His arms are a little too short for the Position but i think he will be fine.

Free was under rated by most fans.
He was a great run blocker. Pass protection he had his idssues, but wasn't as horrible as most believed.

Collins will be fine, he moved from OG to OT. And Leary played more OG that Collins did.
So could this have been considered a rookie year at OT for Collins. I think we will see a big improvement on a good year he already had.

By the end of the year, Collins was as good or better than Doug E Fresh ever was.

Remember, Doug E was much better at run blocking than pass blocking when he was in his prime.

Free was criminally under appreciated. And it took Collins a chunk of the season to give us quality snaps. But he got there and is only going to get better.

The struggles at LG hurt us more early in the season. And obviously not having a stable swing OT.

Free was truly an underrated player for our team. Worked hard and was a leader in the locker room.

But man did he get some heat from people around here. About 5-6 years ago, Free was the official whipping boy of the Zone.

He was a leader of the line and a veteran. I'm fine with La'ell Collins as a replacement. Maybe not the leadership skills of Free but far more athletic.

And a major upgrade at swing tackle. Bell should NOT be back and Green is incredibly unreliable in more ways than just health
