In his new book "Fearless,'' Doug Pederson said he was watching the Pats-Jags game in the locker room before the Eagles played the Vikes when the Jags took a knee at end of 1st half. "I was there thinking, "You've got to be kidding me right now.'' (more)

"It made me mad because Jacksonville had New England right where they wanted them. I was screaming at the TV in my office. When they knelt right before halftime, inside I was like, "I'll never do that." It fueled me," Pederson said.

"They could have least tried for a field goal. They took it out of their quarterback's hands, and they didn't give to their big back Leonard Fournette. I thought, "If they lose this game, this is why." Sure enough they would go on to lose the game."

“You learn if you play passive, if you play conservative, if you call plays conservatively, you are going to be 8-8, 9-7 every year”

“Coach is gonna do it his way. His way is pedal to the medal. He wants to score on every play. He gets upset sometimes because we don’t score on every play, in a good way.”

Reminds me on modern day Landry's coaching.

Landry was not an especially daring coach in terms of taking risks. He was much more calculating and in an era without analytics, he played percentages. Going for fourth downs was most certainly not his thing at all. Bill Parcells and later Belichick are more of the pioneers of that line of thinking.

If you cut Rico and keep Jags like Swaim, Jarwin, Schultz you'll go 8-8, 9-7 every year.

And that's why I believe in just two short years Pederson is one of the top HC's in the game. Love that mentality.

It's actually nothing new however, Mike Leach has been doing this for years. When you get the ball, no matter what the score or time, you try and score TD's.

If all of Pederson's "brave" playcalling blew up in the Eagles' face there would be riots in Philly right now calling for his firing.

Hey, they won the Super Bowl, woopty-do for them. But let's not start dumping on other teams' coaches.

This reminds me of David Tyree of the Giants getting a bestselling book out about his NFL career- which was basically one helmet catch. All of a sudden Pederson is on a Belichick-Walsh-Lombardi level? I think not.

Was he talking about Jason Garrett specifically, in that quote ?

Also, HE WAS SAYING GOING 8-8 or 9-7 IS NOT GOOD !

More proof Garrett doesn't belong in the NFL. Not as HC, not as QB coach nor much less OC .

..dont think it would have mattered, even if they scored a FG before the half. It was a lopsided win for NE. NE was just a better team. Pederson using hindsight bias, presents the situation different. As if Jags really showed a great possibility of actually beating NE.

Garrett won't have to worry about writing a book, he can list his accomplishments on a circular.

You will rue this glib comment the day he gets his rightful place in the ring of honor
